Tax d'habitation

Taxe d'habitation is the occupier tax, paid by whoever's living in the house.

Taxes foncières is the ownership tax, paid by the house owner whether he lives there or not.

So if you're an owner-occupier, you'll have to pay both.

Depending on where you are, you may also have a separate bill for refuse.

TV licence is included in the taxe d'habitation.

Thanks for that. Thought it came out in Jan hence my question as we hadn't received a bill. Now I know why.

Doesn't sound like it'll be a lot as we bought the house in October and only had to pay the immoblier 55E for the extra on these taxes (he bought the house for us as we were living in Australia at the time - long story).
