nomoss
An English friend just sent me a link to a BBC story on this, but I had not heard about it, even though "government ministers visited the scene and national TV and radio channels covered the disaster exhaustively"We were watching TV a lot during the last week, all channels were saturated with news from the USA, a neighbour having lunch with us didn't mention it, nor did anyone in the shops or any French forum I looked at.Was it such a well reported disaster, or are they too used to houses falling down here for it to make the headlines? NormanH
There was a lot of coverage in the MidiLibrehttps://www.midilibre.fr/2018/11/07/marseille-les-recherches-suspendues-pour-detruire-deux-immeubles-voisins-qui-menacent,4828239.phpThen something similar though far less serious as there was no loss of life happened at the bottom of my road on Wednesdayhttps://www.midilibre.fr/2018/11/08/grosse-frayeur-a-beziers-le-mur-dune-maison-du-centre-ville-seffondre,4828303.phpSeveral streets in the town centre heee have been or are being demolished because of subsidence It is estimated that there could be 450,000 buildings in a dangerous condition in France. This little video by LeMonde is worth watching and easy to followhttps://www.lemonde.fr/societe/article/2018/11/10/immeubles-effondres-a-marseille-une-marche-blanche-pour-exprimer-tristesse-et-colere_5381748_3224.html
woolybanana
Places like Marseille are so corrupt or spend so much money on vanity projects like massive museums that these accidents happen. But then the people in the building probably marginals who do not matter, it not being election time.

Look on the TV (as we can't avoid these stories at the moment) the only bit left standing is the STONE FIREPLACE! maybe a clue there America? idun
And I saw it last week on TV5 Monde over several days - France 2 Journal de 20h, shown at 20.30 in France. Horrific, looked like a bomb had gone off, as well other buildings being considered in danger of collapsing.
