5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

A small splash of vanilla extract

1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world ?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Pierre, that post might be enough to give you a spare forum life, should you ever need one!! [:D][:P]

I made a few variations:

*Used malted flour with crunchy bits (sunflower seeds etc.) as I didn't have all purpose flour

*Halved the sugar and oil

*Added a pinch of salt, baking powder, cinnamon and chilli powder

Should have stuck with the full amount of sugar and oil, as the cake was a bit chewy and a bit low on the sweet scale.  Felt more like a brownie than a cake - but overall, quite delicious!

Well, I couldn't resist trying it and I thought it was pretty good. It didn't deserve that bad press; not rubbery at all.. Mind you, I didn't make it in a mug, as the dry ingredients almost filled a mug. In fact, it rose to fill a 2 pint bowl! Maybe that was why it was so light and spongy. I would make it again, very easy. Thanks for the recipe.

Have been looking at this thread with my French husband and half French daughter.  Husband is amazed and disgusted, daughter is confused and curious.

I'm just giggling manically as I know how nuts the lot of you are!

Thank God we don't have a microwave[:)]

OK so I have just tried this recipe!

Yeah, not bad at all [:P]

I had to cook it for a bit longer than specified as I have a 700watt microwave, not 1KW

So, I turned it out onto a plate, still a bit gooey in the middle, but none the worse for that, and very light and spongey.

Add a big dollop of fromage frais and you're sorted!!!

I'll add a bit more cocoa powder next time as I think the stuff I got is not very strong
