Thank you BB. My camera is a Sony DSC-F717. The one with the big fixed size lens stuck on the front. I am ashamed to say that since I stopped using my Nikon 35mm film camera I let the camera sort out most of the settings. I do use the manual setting sometimes, but on those 2 I left it on auto. It has given me some wonderful results and even does IR photography at the flick of a switch. Dick looked at how to do the same with his Nikon, but decided against it, big time!
Great pictures...I love this new section. Is this a viper? Took it when we were walking the towpath below St Cirq Lapopie last summer.

Mmmm, looks like a viper to me.  Check out Chris pp's website.  Great 'photo, lovely snake.  Oooops,  have got into trouble before for admitting to liking snakes[6][6],  I shouldn't do it![:P].

I too had a box of Nikon 'F' bodies and lenses. I used to lug them round on holidays and saw everywhere we went through an eyepiece.

Now I have just one camera, a Fuji Finepix 6900Z with additional W/A & Telephoto tele-converters. Does everything I want to do and more.
But does it scratch its head and think about it before taking the picture - by which time the car has gone?  This is my great frustration with the non-SLR digitals I've tried.

It's shutter is slow when used with flash, but for everyday stuff it's OK. I've promised to buy Mrs Bugbear a compact for christmas but it will probably end up with a few additional features she didn't ask for...............nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

This is off topic, but please bear with me a second. This was with my Nikon 35mm film camera. Totally as it was taken and a once in a lifetime shot.

With my Sony there is a 1/2 pressure where the camera sets it's self up and focuses. What I do is to point the camera at an object at about the same distance and light, etc. and keep the half pressure. Not too difficult. Follow the object you want to capture and when it's where you want it press the shutter button right down. Result, instant shutter reaction. And the photo you want, peut etra?

Same method I use with the Minolta, Jon, if I can't be bothered with the manual settings for focus and exposure.

Back with the wildlife (loved the kissing Arrows, by the way) - common or garden chaffinch:

Just seen Avin's cows - brilliant!

By the way, the bump on the chaffie's head is where he flew into the window the day before.
