Dc Posted June 22, 2008 Share Posted June 22, 2008 I'm not sure this is the right place to post but here goes: we were walking the dog here in dept 17 (charente-maritime) and at the end of the walk go through a small forest which normally gives welcome shade from the sun, however we noticed that there were no leaves and consequently no shade. The only reference I've found thus far on Googling is THIS ONE which seems to suggest that it has not got this far North (or hadn't in '05 anyway.) Chris pp might know? cassis Posted June 29, 2008 Share Posted June 29, 2008 Just a few suggestions:Sudden Oak Death (a disease affecting certain types of oak, but not all) is now a problem in the UK - which is why you can't import oaks, rhodos and azaleas from the UK to France. Maybe it's here?Trees can die in years FOLLOWING major stress like drought or waterlogging - so it may not be anything to do with events this year.Anthracnose - common in the USA, not sure what it is known to attack in Europe, other than dogwoods.Did the oaks EVER have any leaves this year?
