Constant dead calls from 003940

Several times a day now we receive a call from the above, but on answering the line hangs up after a couple of seconds. There is no reply if I call the number.

Any ideas folks?

39 is russian federation country code.....would'nt call it again..

Its some form of scam but I forget how it works. Try typing the phone number in to google and it will tell you.

It's something about being a Russian (and other countries) premium rate line so when you call back you hear nothing or are put on hold for a rate of  €€€€€€€€€.  You might want to check your next phone bill carefully

We have had this too although we get an ear-splitting screeching like someone's fax machine trying to talk to our phone. Its always at the same time and will repeat five times then give up.

I wish whoever it is would check then realise they have the Wrong Number!!

International 39 is Italy 00 39 and the next digit should be the ZERO that is normally omitted from any other international telephone number as Italy added this little one to avoid telephone number suffocation around 3 years ago.

On almost all these types of calls, I work out that if it is really important, they will ring again .... consequently no ring back - ever.  I agree the interruptions caused by these calls is a nuisance, but we did find that going onto liste rouge (or whichever it is to stop junk mail calls) did reduce the number considerably, but not quite to zero. (but manageable).
