Where do I buy worming tablets for a cat? or are there injections a vet can administer? We've never had a cat before so I'm a bit lost to say the least!

Just drop by any local vet and they'll sell you the pills.

Given that you've never had a cat before, you may be unfamiliar with the 'technique' for getting the pill down it's neck! Essentially, this involves wrapping the cat up in a towel and forcing it's jaws open. Yes, I know that you're supposed to be able to put the tablet or powder in the cat's food, but in my experience, they always know and just ignore the food or spit out the pill.

So, it may be best to take the cat along and get the vet to demonstrate for you. It'll end up costing you a consultation fee but probably worth it in the long run. There'll be some other medication that you'll have to administer at some point in time.

You can also get "spot on" wormers now which you adminster as you do many flea treatments (ie pop it on the back of their necks) - this can be easier than trying to get a cat to swallow a pill.

Thanks to Gardian and Cooperlola for the advice, I'll pay a visit to the vets this afternoon. I need to make an appointment for a delicate operation as well, Tiddles McVitie needs to lose his ginger nuts!

Some medicines now can be administered by a syringe into the mouth, I have found these far less stressful ( and dangerous for me), but not sure if wormers can be done that way.

I bought a liquid that is dropped on the back of the neck like flea & tick treatment, much less distress all round. Tiddles is booked in for next Tuesday, I don't think he's going to be a happy cat!

French pharmacies have large sections in their shops for pets.  But I find the medication cheaper at the vets - not sure that this is universal.
