12volt kettles

For a kettle to boil reasonably quickly you need about1,000/1200 watts.(hi-speed mains kettles are 3000 watts);on a 12v system this would need 100 amps which would burn out any wiring on the car other than the starter circuit. You will not find a fast boiling 12v. kettle.A Camping Gaz single burner and kettle would work.

One of the small Camping Gaz burner things would probably be the same sort of size as a 12V kettle (I got one that comes with a couple of small saucepans and they all fit together, saucepans sort of fit together to form a container for the whole thing.

If you have cupholder or the like that will hold the kettle you can always start it off while you are going along - we used to do that without any problem if we were on a motorway. Obviously not a viable option on a mountain pass! Our kettle was quite small so could be well secured, a larger one might be more of a problem. It sounds crazy but is no more dangerous than having a hot drink in the holder although we would turn the kettle off if we mistimed it and it was getting too hot before we got to a stopping place. A kettle of boiling water in a moving car obviously wouldn't be a good idea. The other advantage of this is that the voltage at the socket is higher with the engine running and the kettle doesn't take so long to heat up.
