At least in Dept 10, it is largely rural, nothing happening in the region but try finding a house you can just move into for under 200K. Even lofts are in that range, which is ridiculous. Houses round here that are deemed too expensive for what they are,find themselves on the market for ever and ever as no one local will pay that sort of price or can afford to anyway. I am interested because my son is buying a property together with his girlfriend here in England and they are going for one of these "key worker" plans, where they buy half of the house and for the other half they pay a rent, because it was impossible for them to buy outright although they are both on a teacher's salary (which I think is not that bad). Sorry, I don't mean what area, but which agents etc?Can't speak for Dept 10, but in the area we bought (53), we certainly found it well worth while looking at the french language websites of the french agents and notaires. andyh4 Posted February 16, 2006 Share Posted February 16, 2006 Going to the original question of why the prices are so high in 10 - looking at the map it looks as if 10 may well be on the route of the new TGV Est line - making both Paris and Strasbourg easy commuting targets - and both have very high housing costs compared with most of the rest of France and where 200k wouldn't buy anything worth having at all.When the TGV high speed line arrived in the Drome it doubled house prices - even though Paris was over 2 1/2 hours away.
