Steve Jobs has died
DavidSteward replied to NormanH's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Glad you mentioned Kane Kramer THE inventor of the iPod years before apple. Big time company steals the whole thing from a Guy who doesn't have a whole legal department and the funds to take them to court. As Steve said when other companies brought out tablet computers are we living in a world of copycats, yes I guess you were.
Doesn't he work for Apple in some capacity? -

iMac volume changing by itself
DavidSteward replied to Rowan's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
I am using 10.6.4 so can't check if this is in the same place but I assume it will be. Try trashing your User/Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.systemsound.plist file and then reset the volume levels. It may also help to run Disk Utility from the install DVD and/or reset the PRAM by booting and holding down the cmd option P R keys while it does two start noises. David -
Are you still having problems with the rogue mail item? If you are then let me know and I will try to help. Have you made sure that a copy is not still in your outbox? I always helps to quote the version of OS X and the program version that you are using. Also putting Mac or Apple in the header posting will attract attention from the right people more easily. David

iMac volume changing by itself
DavidSteward replied to Rowan's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Unlikely that it has anything to do with the changing of the batteries. Are you using 10.6.4? It always helps to quote the version of the system you are using. Have yo opened system prefs and set the volume or mute from there? David -

ADSL settings for Orange
DavidSteward replied to DavidSteward's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Many thanks it has worked with VPI set to 8 VCI set to 35 PPPoE and LLC Also after having set the correct port mapping Apple Remote Desktop (viewing and controlling the remote Mac from the UK) and iChat (free video chatting with up to four users, Mac and or PC) work well. We can also transfer files directly from one desktop to another. David -
ADSL settings for Orange
DavidSteward replied to DavidSteward's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Thanks for the prompt reply. Can you tell me what the encapsulation is? Is it LLC or VCMUX? I suspected that the settings are wrong as I can't get it to connect, your info conflicts with the settings for Wanadoo ( I assume Orange are the same) on http://www.routertech.org/pages.php?page=43. I would normally experiment until I got it right but I am setting it up remotely from the the UK and it does take a while to make changes. Many thanks David -
I hope the service does continue. I agree that it seems expensive at face value but as stated when the true costs are driving to the south are taken into account it is value for money. We tried it in a TVR to Brive and found that the ground clearance restrictions were in place for a good reason. In a VW Golf we had no bother and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, getting on in Calais and off the next morning in the south was great. Now we have a Honda HRV and in the light of the problems with the TVR we have decided not to risk it with the height restrictions, otherwise we would have used it again as an alternative to the (expensive) ferry to Bilbao. People Finder
DavidSteward replied to DavidSteward's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Thanks for the help, I managed to find to find two Bill Barretts in France. Will contact them. Thanks David -
I am looking for friend with whom I have lost touch. An American Peace Corps Volunteer who served with me when I did VSO. I have been told he moved to France. In the UK I would use a people orientated search engine such as www.192.com What could I use for France? I am trying to contact Bill Barrett. a Peace Corps Volunteer with whom I served in St. Kitts in 1968 - 1970. Others have also tried to contact him see http://peacecorpsonline.org/messages/messages/467/2036385.html if you are curious. Thanks David

I order to qualify for the discounted fares I bought 600 shares about 5 years ago at a cost of £1000. Am I correct in assuming all I am being offered is either the £1.20 or £1.00 options? In which case I have made a loss as it has usually better to take the special offers as opposed to the Shareholder's offers. David
