  2. I get the same when I try to quote - have stopped trying now. I use Safari.
  3. As another aside, I remember taking a ferry to cross the channel one dark and stormy December day. 'Twas a Townsend Thoresen ship and all the seats had the logo with TT on them. My young daughter, aged about 7 at the time, piped up in a voice which carried throughout the deck: "Is this the Titanic then, mum?" It was pretty quiet then too.
  4. Do you mean you had to pay this pal just to calculate whether you were meant to pay CGT? And did then you have to pay the CGT itself as well?
  5. Yes - you both have my deepest admiration! Look forward to hearing all the stories afterwards.
  6. I seem to remember being told at some time that you can only take so much penicillin in your lifetime and when you have used up your quota you are likely to suffer side effects. I had meningitis as a baby and was given extremely high doses (which cured me!) but, when I was given more high doses for a bad middle ear infection, it caused problems.
  7. Erm - stupid question but - how do you know that a TF or TH bill is wrong? We just pay it each year and have a little moan that it has gone up quite a lot - again! Can't begin to understand all the figures on the bill. Now you've got me wondering if we've been paying too much. Any hints?
  8. But I think the OP has two school-aged children so September would be out of the question for his/her holiday.
  9. you could also try the PO forum: www.anglophone-direct.com - very friendly lot they are! The forum will give you all sorts of information on the area. there is a resident (resident on the forum that is - in reality he is in England in the rain) expert weather forecaster who posts extremely accurate forecasts every day. I am in 66 at the moment and it is VERY hot and sunny but with a welcome gentle breeze which makes it bearable.
  10. Thanks, Clair. Mystery solved. Couldn't understand why we got two separate bills last year. So, forewarned is forearmed and there will probably be another bill in the post soon.
  11. Does that apply to all those Viagra spam emails too do you think?
  12. Yes, this is perfectly normal - at least in this part of France (66).
  13. I especially love the bit where the group of boys rush out and rubbed me!!!
  14. Champiau, has all that happened to you this season? Sincerely hope not.
  15. Is there any way you can send a copy of that post to Nationwide too, Cathy?
  16. That was my first reaction, Russethouse - that Mr Blair should have just donated the money to the British Legion without publicising it. Not necessarily anonymously, just without telling anyone apart from them what he was doing. Then when I thought about it I realised that, by making the donation known, he is probably going to increase book sales and thus increase the donation. Think he should also say 6,000 Hail Marys (Maries?) if he wants complete absolution.
  17. Then you could say the magic words: "Kill them!" (Armstrong and Miller)
  18. OK - point taken. Just thought that the French seem to be more bureaucratic generally and I would have thought that it would be more tricky to have your "foreign" credentials and history accepted in France than in England.
  19. Well, that's crazy. We got insurance in France when we only had a UK licence and there was no extra charge (well, I don't think there was - it wasn't mentioned) We were asked for no claims bonus entitlement and it seemed to be accepted. Surely then it should work the other way round - in England on a French permis de conduire.
  20. Excellent, Patmobile. At the moment you are the number one entry!
  21. Totally agree with all of that, Sweet17. I think you should wear a t-shirt with some sort of slogan on it on your travels. You might get interviewed or filmed! Even more bad news - found out today that our cave doesn't take credit cards. Grrrrrrrrrrr
  22. Not strange gite owners really but...... we arrived at the gite on time and there was a note on the door saying that they were at a wedding down the road - key under the mat - help yourself - make yourself at home!!! Ahhhhhh! There is some trust left in the world.
  23. I'm an Apple enthusiast and would willingly help with requests from people wanting help. But......... I know nothing!!!!!!!!! My Mac just works and works and works. It talks to me in simple language and I only seem to need help when trying to add stuff such as a new printer or a wireless router. I recently had to throw away my 12 year old iMac just because we are moving and we need the space. So, just to save me getting a smart haircut and coming round knocking on your door to try and convert you, get a Mac!!!!!!!
