  1. Have a vent dear, it is good for the system. Then go to the PO and vent there too. And a laugh because the local PO's are all going to end up in the local grocery store or mini-mart. But what happens to the good for nothings behind the desks is an unknown. Let's ask Sarko.
  2. As I said before, we are all Europeans now.[6]
  3. Aren't pink knickers de rigeur too? Or is that just in the Deux Sèvres?[6]
  4. Whether these two politicians are honest or not I do not know, Dick. However, they would appear, on the facts that have been allowed to come out, to have become involved in something which may be illegal and, perhaps through omission, have tarnished their reputations. In the context of a number of incidents over tha last years, beginning perhaps with the million quid bung from Mr. Ecclestone, is it surprising that they should be suspected? ( Would you please notice my use of  'hedging' to express the complexities of the debate.) I cannot judge their intelligence.
  5. In case Dick Smith has read only the Daily Mail or the Mail on Sunday, the story was carried in both the Sunday Times and the Observer as well. Surely the point is that in the current climate the donation is likely to be suspect at least. And frankly, the idea of a proxy donor just does not ring true. Though whether politicians should be assumed to be guilty until proved innocent is another matter. Then, why are candidates for the deputy leadership of any party spending what appear to be huge sums in campaigning.[6]
  6. It is a very European thing to do, so that the Brit politicians are now as bent as the rest. That is another advantage of having joined Europe.[6]
  7. I think the Riff-Raff are right on this one. Though actually getting the father to pay up may be another matter. Seems strange in this day and age that anyone would want to stop their kid getting an educatiuon.[6]
  8. Thank you makfai, I will pass on the message. Guy is in a wheelchair these days so is a bit worried about his health cover.
  9. Too late. The soandso grass had started growing with a vengeance
  10. And I have a friend, early sixties, no E106, came here in late September 2007 from another European country but is Brit born. When he arrived he, he was apparently not allowed to join the CMU as it was closed for 'inactifs' in September. But the 'closing' date has now been shifted to November. Wat duz he do pleez? Can he join the CMU? By the way, the original French text said 'in the CMU' on 11th November, not legally resident (didnt it?)? How does he go about proving legal residence as he will not fill out a tax return for 2007 until May?
  11. chuck some sugar in the pot, less salt[6]
  12. The question about the grocer does not need to be asked as it is known and he/she knows the answer as well.
  13. I have not lived in UK for many years so may be out of date but it seems that the word 'class' is used less and less in UK. That doesnt mean it has disappeared of course, as in France
  14. Comparisons are invidious. Suffice it to say I think that France has a strong class system. Members of the upper class live in a relatively closed and isolated world and concentrate themselves in the professions and close to government (though only a few actually become politicians). They live  and work discreetly, obtaining what they want through an extended family and social net of influence. They rarely marry outside their class except when there is money involved or they need fresh brood mares or studs. [6]
  15. No, in France it is just as strong is not stronger. Never heard of the Bottin Mondain?
  16. Wasn't the RE officers mess rather expensive years ago?
  17. I do so hate it when my brother goes over the top like that, but what can I do? I promised to give him some space if he sent he clear messages, but it wont be for long. He is such a twerp himself he makes me wanna cry. Do you know, dear, weh I started wearing Sloggis he stole and burned them. He was just a foul-mouthed boozy beast! Hated me cooking and ironing too. Stiff upper lip indeed...[6]
  18. They have the option to come with you to a cash machine to get the money. If they wont they are being bloody minded.
  19. The bravest of the brave came from all classes and ranks. it was a question of attitude. The snivelling twerps of creatures described as men these days are not worthy of the title.[6]  (Please note, my late brother asked me to say this)
