1. thanks for that, I will go back to my vet and make sure that he and I have all the correct documentation
2. When I asked my vet here in france what I needed he said I had to have the rabies vac + positive blood test result and wait 6 months.  What else do I need then, and do you know how I get a uk pet passport in France?
3. I am going to UK in November and taking 2 dogs with me both of which have come from Spain and have had the rabies vaccination and the positive blood test result.  What concerns me is that one of the dogs we have had for 5 years and although she is microchipped we have no proof of when this was done because she was a rescue dog.  I do have dated proof of her ear tattoos dating to 2003 and obviously if the chip and the tattoo are on the same dog then this must be the dog that is vaccinated but I am worried that this won't be enough.  Also she had her blood test done for rabies last year and has since had her boosters but the blood test result is now dated that her last rabies injection was march 07. I have her Carnet de Santé to show that she was in fact vaccinated again in March 2008 and the rabies certificate with her microchip number on it - does anyone know if this is going to be ok?
4. these coats are brilliant!! - I make them from anything warm I can find - fleecy dressing gowns are great and you can use the tie belt for the waist tie - colours can be a bit dodgy though - bright pink was the latest but I'm sure the dogs don't care!  I don't know about all you but I get a great satisfaction from making something from nothing and it couldn't be for a better cause. I don't bother with the curves either and they look and fit great.
5. that's fantastic - you are right, if everyone gave just a little bit it would add up to a lot and make a huge difference.  I have also sent a donation - there is a paypal facility on the site www.levriers.net and also they can accept euro cheques.  Nuria speaks english so she can be contacted on the [email protected] address. thank you to everyone who can help.
6. I have just received this email from a dog refuge near Madrid - she writes.......... .......we are again distressed - we were delighted to have taken 40 galgos to France for adoption since January but in 3 days we have received another 23. Of which 8 were rescued from gypsies, one of them was dying of hunger. If we don't accept them the hunters and the gypsies will not take them to the dog pound as it costs 20 euros so they will suffer a terrible death. We are in despair - what can we do? There is a high bill at the vets, we owe too much money there. And for the food, it is chaos, how to feed so many dogs? , more than 60 dogs in excess, more than usual..... This time of year is the end of the hunting season in Spain and this is the reason that so many galgos are being abandoned. Without rescue by these refuges these dogs face a certain and horrific death - burning, hanging, starvation. The website www.levriers.net is the french contact for Amigos de Los Galgos from whom this email came - if anyone can do anything to help please please do.
7. thanks for the link, that's great - good to see the good old british sense of humour alive and well in France!
8. Sorry this is not a real legal question but I want to find out if there is a formal dress for french avocats like the wig and gown for our judges and solicitors - any ideas?
9. I recently posted about Manolito a spanish galgo who needed a new home and I am really pleased to say that he has been adopted by a lovely french lady nr St Tropez - lucky dog! However there are many more greyhounds out there that need loving homes - please look at www.galgos47.net and especially the sos appeal for a refuge in Spain in desperate need of help.  many thanks
10. I am new to this forum but found a thread about saving spanish greyhounds giving various web sites and organisations that are helping them.  I would just like to add another one - www.levriers.net  This is a french association working with 'Amigos de los Galgos' in Madrid.  It survives solely on donations (as most do) and tries to bring dogs out of Spain to be rehomed in France every month.  Please consider rescuing a greyhound, they are truly wonderful dogs and look at my posting in the pets in france section about Manolito looking for a home now. Thank you.
11. thank you for the advice - I have added the photos to the posting and put them here as well!
12. Manolito is a beautiful 4 year old Galgo (spanish greyhound) who has been rescued by Amigos de los Galgos in Madrid.  He is currently with a foster home near Carcassonne and is looking for a permanent family to give him a loving home.  He is very placid, calm and loving, he is castrated, vaccinated, has a european passport (not for uk) is 70cm tall and is good with other dogs and people.  He needs a home that has a large, well fenced garden and preferably no cats - greyhounds make wonderful, docile pets, and contrary to popular belief do not need much exercise!  If you are considering getting a rescue dog please think of helping the thousands of greyhounds that are in desperate need in Spain. Thankyou.
