1. I was lucky enough to see the Four Tops live twice... once in their heyday at the Royal Albert Hall and then a few years later at one of the northern working mens clubs... not sure which one, maybe Batley... which had been arranged as an evenings entertainment after some business meeting I was attending. Great entertainers but tbh I was a bit suprised to read they were still performing in 2008.
2. Just seen this... must keep an eye on it as we have a Banque Populaire account.
3. But prize pot is being cut
4.
An interesting comment: "The vast majority - about 90% - paid up on the roadside. The DVLA believes this indicates that a significant proportion had no idea they had to register their cars in Britain." Given the times we have seen someone argue with SD about this...
I'm not sure how this works in practice.  What documentation will they have to produce in the UK???  valid isurance? valid MOT if applicable etc.  That doesn't sound like a quick roadside signup.
5. I just posted this We even chose similar titles.[:)]
6. Long overdue in the UK (if it works). This could cause a few problems for some drivers in France if a similar process was adopted I suspect.
7. Good to know it isn't just me. [:)] The forum software being used here seems to be a bit quirky.
8. I've noticed that if I click on "Last Post" on a thread that has 9 posts I'm taken to the last post on the first page of the thread ie. post #8 Does anyone else get that? I'm using Firefox. If the thread has 10 posts then I'm correctly taken to the second page and post #10.
9. The Icelandic can of worms opens up even more exposures These are likely to be well above the £50k.
10. Just bought Bob Dylan's "Tell Tale Signs"  album and I'm currently listening to "Red River Shore".... classic Dylan.
11. I haven't a great deal of experience doing this but I've used proper petrol container at the local village pump with no problem.
12.
Well I suppose there is one upside to it Derek? At least BBs new toy isn't a dirty old mac![:-))][:-))]
LOL [:D]
You should see my new plane..........JJ
Aero or wood?   Anyway, just to be safe I'm not flying this week or getting my chopper out.
13.
Blimey BB did you bring the forum down with your new toy yesterday??? I kept getting all sorts of error messages saying that an unidentified bit of fruite that make cider had screwed the server or something[8-)] I think I will hide when you anounce your next new toy [:-))]!!
I was thinking just the same.... these mac users,  I don't know, what can you do with them? [:'(][:P][:D]
14. Amazing...hopefully another nail in Gordon's coffin.
15. I think the decision to go with either Nikon or Canon (or any other DSLR manufacturer) comes down to personal choice in many ways unless you already have an investment in lenses. eg. if you have a range of Canon lenses it would be natural to protect that investment but  if you are starting from scratch it doesn't really matter. Have a look at reviews DPREVIEW are generally recognised as a good source. Try and handle the camera and see how the controls suit you. Don't get caught up in megapixel battles.
16.
Derek - at least the insurance should have paid up ?????  Your son was unlucky.  Yes it can happen, but I've heard of far more problems concerning PCs than Macs ! Nobody's perfect......[;-)]
Callie. In my son's case he was covered by the extended warranty he got as a student... fortunately. As far as overall reliability goes between PC and mac I don't know the figures. I'd expect to hear of more PC failures given that there must be many more PCs than macs in use. I agree that you can just be unlucky but I do have a feeling that macs are hyped up to be more reliable than they actually are... anecdotal I know, but I have a couple of friends who also love their macs but have had reliability problems with them.
17.
You won't have problems with a Mac - how many people can say that they have never had a problem with their PC ?
In my earlier post I hinted at the fact that my son's machine had had some problems. I don't think he would go along with your "no problems" comment. The shopping list on his to date has been: hard drive failed/replaced, battery failure/replaced motherboard replaced CD/DVD drive failure Not quite the perfect machine they are sometimes painted as! [:(][:)]
18. My son keeps telling me to move the dark side as well. He keeps showing me how easy everything is... and I must admit the ease of use is tempting.... this is despite his not being the most reliable bit of kit ever.  I get tempted but they always seem a bit pricy for what they are.
19.
For beech a neutral Danish Oil would probably look good. I haven't seen it over here, but Rustins in the U.K. do a nice one if either you are going over or you are having visitors. One of our forum members bought some over for me, good lass!![:D] I say neutral because they do various different shadings. It dries to a lovely sheen after a couple of coats...
Is that right? I've only seen a neutral version of Danish oil. I bought a big tin Liberon Danish oil which I'm bringing out with me for use on our new kitchen worktops. I experimented with it on some off cuts we brought back and the finish is great (on oak). I'm interested in the answers/suggestions as well as we have a new staircase that needs some treatment. It's hardwood but what exactly I don't know. I've been debating several different varnishes but I have some concern over whether the step treads would be too slippery. Not sure how Danish oil would perform in that respect?
20.
Que-ce que c'est, Vista?  Je suis une technophobe![:$]
Bill Gates sera malheureux avec vous! [:D]
21.
Odile, for accents, try downloading www.avisoft.co.uk.  It's one of the many ways but I think probably the easiest.
Malheureusement, ça ne marche pas pour Vista. [:(]
22. Callie.  Exactly... Acknowledgement of other bikers is different as well... Usually just a nod in the UK but it seems to vary over the channel... sometimes a wave, sometimes a lift of the leg.
23.
Aahhh how very polite [kiss] can they come over here and give our lads some lessons ! Thank you
It's done in the UK as well but usually with a slight wave  or lifting of the hand.
24. This isn't a CompleteFrance phenomena... many other forums suffer from the same lack of manners. In particular, I participate in an excellent phototography forum for Nikon users ... Nikonians. There are many very talented people who respond with advice and information including award winning pros but you still have people get excellent advice but give no  feedback... rude and ignorant in the extreme. At this stage I can offer very limited advice/comments on France and I'm mainly a recipient of others kind help/advice... I can only say if I'm ever guilty of this "black hole syndrome" please feel free to beat me up.
25. It appears that there is a lot more to all of this.... aledgedly. like a knifing, jumping off a motorway bridge and a murder charge!
