1. I'm sure SD will be along soon but no I don't think there are any problems and yes the restrictions are about to change, I think mainly the lifting of the departmental restrictions and the CT requirements will be every 5 years.
2.

You need to coat the walls first with the French version of sugar soap.  Worked well for us!
??
lessive St. Marc
3. If you put modern emulsion onto lime based paint/plaster it'll peel off in no time.  The only sure fire way I know to tell is paint some emulsion on and see if it peels off.......... You need to coat the walls first with the French version of sugar soap.  Worked well for us!
4. To hire a mini digger look at Sodime.  Top tip.......rent it for Saturday if you can - the place is closed Sunday so you get Sunday for free [;-)] Best place to buy emulsion..........UK......... You can get Dulux here from the larger DIY shops such as Tridome but 10l will set you back around 60 Euros, and it aint that good.  Use a good undercoat (sous couche) first, but again that's not cheap either.
5. why do you need to take your own when you can hire perfectly good gear at the other end.. Personally I'd sooner take my own. Never been a fan of the rental stuff - perfectly good maybe but dog's doodah's no! I'm a K2 Apache Crossfire freak - never ever seen them available to rent, specially in Euroland..... Where did the smileys go?????
6. Yeah I've seen it work well. BA Connect (ex CitiExpress/Brymon) used to do it. Flybe do it (I think) and I see it at LCY on VLM flights. Business travellers like it because there's no waiting around when they get to where they're going.
7. My guess is they will look to move towards a 'valet bag' type system as used by many other airlines. i.e. you take all your bags through including those too big for the cabin and leave your 'hold' bag at the aircraft steps. When you get off at the other end the bags are there at the bottom of the steps for you to collect and away you go. Saves the airline money because they only need one or two loaders at the aircraft. Popular with business travellers - on the upside you don't have to wait around for your luggage to come off the carousel and you know it's going to be there for you but on the downside you have to pack travel size everything!
8. If you look here https://portal.bsh-partner.com/portal(bD1kZSZjPTAwOQ==)/PORTALFRAME.HTM you should be able to download the instructions for you cooker from Bosch.  It should contain therein instructions to regulate the flame if necessary.
9. Not good. Must have been one hell of a storm.
10. .......or a speeding fine from a UK car rental...........[:P]
11. Not sure what you're hi jacking but pva is generally known as colle blanc Can't help with the tiling thing I hate tiling over tiles so I always pull the old ones off! No need to pva the floor just put your vinyl tile glue straight on it.
12. Moving back towards the original post if you have a dream then chase it I say. There will always be those who try and tell you you're doing the wrong thing. Life would be pretty boring if we all sang from the same song sheet. I came to France a little over a year ago and don't regret it for one moment. It IS a better pace of life than the UK and yes the French ARE a lot more outwardly friendly than the English. I'm fortunate that my line of work means I can work anywhere in the world without fear of language difficulty and as long as there are planes in the sky those planes will always need maintenance crews. A plane may be able to fly without pilots but it'll never be able to repair itself! So go for it I say before it's too late.
13.
I think that TV will be joining countless others at the Hautefort Recycling Centre later this week.
And later next week at the Hautefort Vide Grenier..........[:D]
14. The motorised set up in the link I posted looks ok and no reason why you can't put the rectangular 'dish' on the motor, then you have your two outputs and it doesn't look like an ugly satellite dish...........
15. WTF is a double picker up thing???????!!!!!!!! [8-)][8-)][:D] Tristan if you do want (or need) to receive both through satellite then you need either a motorised dish or two dishes. If you go with two dishes then line one up at 19 deg and one at 28.  Plug the output from the one at 19 deg into a French satellite decoder and connect from Scart output of that into AV1 on the TV.  Connect the LNB from Sat 2 (28 deg) to the UK skybox and plug this box into scart AV2. Not 100% sure about connecting up a motorised dish but I expect you would need a dual output LNB on the dish and connect one output to French decoder and the other output to UK decoder and plug both decoders into the TV via Av1 and AV2.  I'm sure others can be of more help - that's just my 2p worth!
16. The split lnb's are for 13 and 19, which are hotbird and astra 1. You shuld be able to receive French TV through both these but to receive UK TV you need to point the dish at Astra 2 (28 deg) so unless you go for a motorised dish then yes you'll need two dishes. If I were you I'd line up the Satellite at Astra 2 and stick with terrestrial for French TV. Your French TV with integrated TNT will be Terrestrial anyway - you'll still need a French satellite decoder if you want to get French TV through a satellite. http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000C49HJO/leguidepremiu-21/ref=asc_df_B000C49HJO353560 for a motorised dish - looks OK but no experience of it so I really couldn't comment.  But you get the idea what to look for......
17. It does sound to me rather like the water heater is dead.  Exactly the same symptoms as I had last year.  Usual culprit is a rupture in the heating element which then causes the electrickery to conduct through the water in the tank, to the outer shell and straight to earth, tripping the breaker and knocking out the rest of the house. If that's the case then you need a(nother) new heater....... As mentioned before a sparky will tell you in 5 minutes if it's kaput.
18. Thanks mod - I wrote that reply from my iPod so I couldn't link it properly.
19. Sounds like you're pointing at Astra 1 not 2. Look at www.ses-astra.com go to international English page and open the installation assistant. It'll tell you exactly where to point the dish. Link updated by a mod
20. Can you not put the dish higher up?? How far away is the wall and what size of dish are you using? Sometimes you can get around signal degradation caused by an obstacle by using a bigger dish.
21.
So, my question, will my system work on Astra 1[I]
Erm.........no. Sky channels are on Astra 2.........a Sky dedicated decoder will only decode the Sky channels broadcast by Astra 2. Knock the wall down or put ya dish on t'other side......
22. If your driving licence is issued by another EU member state then no you don't need to exchange it for a French one, unless you meet the criteria above ie 70 yrs or commit an offence. If it's issued by a country outside of the EU then you have 1 year in which to exchange it for a French one.
23. I love these 'discussions'. And I'm firmly in the 'initial installation cost outrageously high' camp! Ready for incoming
24. Neither, I'm employed by a UK company but resident in France. From the hmrc website, as written on the E106 application form, it is issued where a person is resident abroad but liable for UK NI contributions. Of course it can still be issued I guess to a non employed person but will have a finite validity. My point is if your NI is paid up and continues to be then no reason not to expect a 106 which runs for as long as you continue to pay NI. My advice to the op is call them up, they're a friendly bunch but then Geordies usually are!!
