1. I would bet if taking stuff back in your own car you wont be checked anything is possible though but it wouldn't deter me I have just returned to our france place from Uk with a car load of bits I was actually stopped by the Douanes going out for driving a UK reg'd car! contents never checked, I was asked if I was taking over any drugs.
2. Did you get sorted with a line etc? If not i'd go down the 4G route Satellite wise, your dish should be ok, needs aligning, where about are you?
3. Apologies for opening an old thread but..... Am sorry to learn recently of Tims passing (Kaylin Computers), condolences to Lin his wife who I believe has moved on from their home in Deux Sevres
4. Cornwall, overrated? possibly Everywhere is a pain to get to, parking is extortionate, restaurants over priced. I preferred living north coast than south but preferred the sea views of the south, no boats on the north coast. People seemed friendlier in the north but most were incomers and that was prior to 2016 vote, who knows now. But its much milder than much of rural France in winter, thats why we chose Cornwall and Finistere. Each to their own as they say
5. Been in / out france since 2004. Moved around a bit, moved to Cornwall since then and now a place in both UK/France. Felt okay in Cornwall until 2016, since then theres been a sense of being a foreigner there, I know I am in France but didn't feel like one. In Cornwall, I have been told to go back where I came from when someone heard me saying brexit was a bad idea. In lockdown early 2020 my neighbour mentioned it might be better if I was at my other place, only locals allowed in the shop (It had been our main home but spent more time in France), they said this a week after I offered to do their shopping, they didn't drive so I offered to do it or take them. At our place in France during same lockdown I found out a neighbour had cut our grass and hedges, better than it had ever been, we haven't spoke much, he doesn't understand a word I say (I get same in Cornwall) and me same with his, he speaks so fast. Am told hes happy we bought, previous tenants had not looked after the place and treated it like a decheterie Have to say I have had good response from the locals in Brittany, the friendliest I have noticed in my 17 years and 5 departments.
6. if in reply to my post Its only 2 and so I don't have to pay the high band road tax really - I am, just not 'officially'
7. I (non resident) registered 2 vehicles at our place last year via ANTS, registered using mobile no. and email etc Just tried logging in and my details unknown! Did another registration process and this time to register a vehicle it has now asked for my franceConnect info which I dont have (yet). If I need to I can ask a neighbour or a garage. Shame, I preferred the process to the old way of visiting the prefecture and queuing up.
8. Probably best place is on ebay.de Search Scheinwerfer
9. I used to transfer via 2 PayPal accounts, one UK one fr from bank to bank but after logging into my fr account in the UK it messed up the setup but it worked quite well. A fairfx card is better now to withdraw cash when our clarity card isn't accepted. Top up when needed but they charge to withdraw at atm. Good ex rate.
10. Odd that people in the Charente, Haute Vienne, Lot, Lot et G put on the Dordogne border. People in Deux Serves put on Charente border I'm yet to see one with on the Deux Serves border. And people in West France put SW France adding the 2nd sunniest area in France or micro climate as tho it's like the caribbean in winter.
11. supposedly 1001 chateaux in that there cheap and nice Dordogne
12. I have (not Paris) and they are not the reason I bought in France.
13. And to carry on the english tradition - lets talk about the value of things and how you need more money. 150k pah, 10x6 pool pah I want more and it must be expensive!

All the market stalls, for instance, apparently have notices in French AND English I gathered that it was a bit of an enclave for les anglais so I never bothered to go and look for myself. - - And yet frequents this english forum to get their bit of UK like life! Brits who have a go at english enclaves on an english forum in english hating the english, how english!
15. Mind if I open up an old wound? No, ok Having lived in a few areas and traveled about in our moho for me Dordogne(shire) is one of the nicest parts of France I have visited, shame there isn't a coast. It was on our last stop going home to the Vendee that we stopped in Dordogne where we said - next house is going to be here and it was but in true fashion didn't last and we upped and did one. Most of France is nice but Dordogne is manicured. That is probably why the brits go there. And why not.
16. What are Free like to contact these days? I had a mare with them years ago, in the end I had to buy a 2nd hand freebox and get them to pair it up to my account which was easy but they wouldnt give me a new box, I used a netgear router in the meantime but didnt have the free calls thing.
17.

For some bizaar reason I thought having a debit card would have got me money!
It does in the case of AnOthers' suggestion the nationwide card works in cash points and the rate is good without transaction charges.
Plus, I fill up prior to boarding not waiting until I get off the boat. Anyway, last August my UK card wouldnt work, this time it did.
18. Well, we got there. Did a quick fill up at a Super U just off the main road down and the card worked (MBNA ex Alliance Leicester credit card). Probably would have made it anyway as turned out, still had over a 1/4 left. Now back to the bank to ask if they will send me a new PIN again which I have found out today that they have been taking out 10e a month for something I havn't asked for, then im off to open another account somehere else. Nice and warm today in a nice part of the world made up for it AnOther - Hate to think of your backup emergency plans for when taking a flight or ferry. For some bizaar reason I thought having a debit card would have got me money!
19. Can anyone tell me if UK chip n pin cards work yet, i'm thinking not. After forgetting our pin number on our french card and the bank failing to send out a new number we are driving through France again in the hope we don't have to spend the night in a petrol station. This time we will be a little earlier so hopefully I might find a manned station at about 8pm and fill up again. May need fuel around Rennes or Niort if anyone knows manned stations.
20. Looks like this is gonna take some time try the freebox forum (in english if you prefer) a couple of helpful posters on there I only ever used the freebox no. for outgoing calls, kept our FT line for incoming
21. Hi Have you activated the phone via your online account? I have never had a problem with phones on the freebox.
