7. Just John - I'm blushing... and I also agree with what you say... I guess having a general moan is just part of life [:$] NuB - I also agree with you, we should complain if we feel we have been wronged.... sadly quite often folks either never say anything OR have a huge rant and get nowhere

    Perpignan

Thinking caps needed again please. We're driving down to Perpignan on Friday for a week. I'm keen to nip across the border to Spain for one day and to spend a day beside the med on another ... but where else would you recommed we visit?  Also, does anyone have any campervan stops that they would recommend? thanks in advance for any ideas :) xx

    Dordogne to Italy

oh blimey - I'm very sorry for not coming back sooner and thanking you for all your lovely suggestions! We've had a little change of plan over the last week or so - we're still planning to go to Italy but we're now thinking of heading down to Florence, then Pisa and then along the coast to Antibes, and heading back homewards via the Milau Bridge. Greyman has been very busy planning the route and where we can stop... I think we head off towards Lyon from the Dordogne, drive through the alps and head down to Florence... very roughly [8-)] Having read the idea about the opera at Verona I am very tempted to change route again but I'm not sure the family would be too happy... maybe for another day? Thank you all for the ideas... I'm still open to suggestions for places to visit and stoppever ideas, if you have any? xx
  10. I've not been around for a few days and I'm sure I'm not going to add anything else to this debate but... I like Ryanair [:$] I get to book cheap flights, I only ever take one bag, that absolutely fits the box, I dont take extras of any sorts... I make everything very very simple so that I can go through quickly.  They fly from our local airport here in France to a local airport in the UK... the prices are so low our friends get to pop over for cheap visits too.  I know they have annoying rules - but I still manage to find great deals.  The only time I've ever witnessed rudeness was by the english ex-pat I sat beside on one flight... who was determined to be mean to the young lady serving him... so rude I apologised when I got off the plane.  I'm not saying that other's bad experiences aren't real... I'm just putting my hand up for the 'very happy' camp and I really hope RA continue as they are... I for one would really miss them! Also, how come nobody moans about flybe and their prices... they have just as many hidden costs, they have silly rules and we've been charged extra for a bag that would have fitted in RA... and they're really not cheap.  And Easyjet... one bag rule just like ryanair, everytime I've had hold luggage it has been damaged (3 times) and flights are very often delayed. I guess no airline is perfect - I'm just grateful that I've got the choice and that the low-cost flights are available -  I do also sometimes wonder what folks want for there very cheap flight... but that's just my opinion. [:$]
  11. Hello seasoned travellers [:)] We're planning a trip to Italy in our little campervan.  I thought it would be good of we could do a bit of a circular trip to take in different places on each leg of the journey.  We're aiming to go to the Italian Lakes and then, after a couple of days, head down to the Venetian coast for a few more days... then start heading back to France.... We've got about 2 weeks for the trip. As we're moving into very unexplored territory for us, can anyone suggest places that we should include in our itinerary... suggested driving routes... best way to get from France into Italy... any local knowledge would be great or first hand experiences welcome. We've got 6 months to plan this so we've got loads of time... and thought what better place to start that here. many thanks p.s. greyman would like to drive over the Millau bridge but not sure if this will take us too far out of our way [8-)]
  12. ok... well I may as well throw my vote in ... I like FB  [:$] I have found lots of old friends that I'd lost touch with... people I worked with, girls I went to school with and I get to say hello to folks that were once part of my life and I would not have been in touch with them without FB. I don't have 1000's of friends, I dont join any of the daft groups... I don't make endless pointless posts... but neither do my friends.  I do however, keep in touch with folks, share photos and news... it's generally all light hearted and I like it. I think there are lots of ways you can use FB... I prefer the quiet approach... it works well for me [blink] [8-)]
  13. Hello Sweets!  How are you settling in :) xx
  14.
Regarding your comment on marking they use as follows: A (acquis,) B (a renforcer) C ( Encours d'acquisation) D non acquis.
We also had these marks on our sons reports whilst in CM1 and CM2 - now everything is marked out of 20 so maybe it changes as they get older?
  15. Sorry - I've been out all day but just thought I should respond to PPP's comments concerning me... PPP said - If I may add a piece for Rose... your assertion regarding footage taken by Sky News and it's relevancy as evidence reflects badly on what used to be a corner stone of UK justice when the criminal case was based SOLELY on the evidence presented to the court. Your disparaging dismissal of the presiding judges remarks regarding the mother obviously is just a small voice but a disturbing echo of present day attitudes by the public at large in consort. PPP - I did not make any disparaging dismissal of the judges comments... I said... Rose - The judge may have praised his mother - I do to, well done her for doing the right thing... however, Sky news has reported that he was identified by them two hours before he handed himself in... Or are you saying that because he went to the police he should have had a lesser sentence? Are you perhaps reading between the lines?  I agreed with the Judge, well done to the mother... However, I do not agree with you on the sentence... this has nothing to do with small voices and disturbing echos... it means I dont agree with you!   PPP - Yes I can forgive, even the most heinous crime. But then I am not a bigotted protestant believer. In effect as an 18 year old with a sentence of over 2.5 years he will NEVER EVER extinguish his crime 'spent). It is sad to see the nature of the lack of charity expressed by you and RH in particular but perhaps not surprising. The link below gives a quick introduction to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, commonly referred to as ROA.   And who exactly is the biggotted protestant believer?  Do you always resort to name calling if one doesn't agree with you? PPP - I am prepared to wager that if a bucket was placed on the ground and you were given an empty fire extinguisher to throw from the same height with similar weather conditions that in 20 throws you would not hit the bucket once. I would agree that if there was one bucket on the ground we would all miss... but there weren't buckets there were 100's of people and chances are if he tried to do it again its very possible someone would get hit.
  16.

it should be remembered that the mother was pertinent in persuading her son to hand himself in
It should also be remembered that footage of him was all over the news; no doubt he would have been identified within hours. Not only did he drop the extinguisher from the roof, he aimed it in the direction of the police as he threw it.  He is a very lucky man indeed as he could have so easily been facing a murder charge... he should be counting his blessings.  He did the cause no favours and I'm surprised by your comments P.
Obviously your judicial and forensic assessment is much better than that of the presiding judge. I quote.."The judge praised Woollard's mother, Tania Garwood, saying he was taking into account her "extraordinary and courageous conduct" in persuading him to give himself up."
What forensic assessment do I need?  The judge may have praised his mother - I do to, well done her for doing the right thing... however, Sky news has reported that he was identified by them two hours before he handed himself in... Or are you saying that because he went to the police he should have had a lesser sentence?

  18.
Nobody would happier than me to see second home owners leave France, nor to see Ryanair stop the flights which have contributed to the infestation.
Norman... be nice [:$]  Happy New year by the way x
  19. Hi Crossy - diet is over thank goodness!  I only needed it before my Radiation treatment...as soon as that was done the diet was finished with!  Indeed Greyman collected me from the hospital with a very large picnic basket  [:D] Glad I'm not alone with my festive tiple [:$]
