1. Jet 2 flying to the new airport at Brive from Manchester from next May. Prices seem very reasonable for next August but it's when you start adding all the "extras"
2. To be fair there was a guy walking round waving one of those "Caution slippery floors" signs.
3. Chancer wrote "Suppositories, even Italian ones are not going to help your jet lag" My doctor once prescribed those when I was having some trouble , didn't do the business , in fact I might as well have stuffed them up my Ar*e.
4. Why not try your local Decheterie (sp?)
5. I remember a few years ago an article in the Daily Telegraph about people working in the City ringing up Estate Agents in Nelson Lancashire on a Monday morning and buying over the phone any cheap properties that had been put on the market that weekend. Prices at the time , as I recall , could be as low as £8000 for a derelict terraced property. Just pure speculation.
6. Having just watched the 3rd episode of William Boyds adaptation of "Any Human Heart" on Channel 4 last night I eagerly await next weeks episode. The main character , Logan Mountstuart , has just been left a property in " Sainte Sabine in the Lot" which I believe , in next weeks episode , he moves to and spends the last days of his life. So far it has only shown glimpses of this property as he burns his personal possesions in his garden. Whilst the village maybe fictional , the location where they filmed is certainly authentic with the Lot region. I am intrigued.
7. Watched Part 3 last night , where Logan mentioned the name of the village that he had been left a property by his old friend the French poet. Didn't quite catch it but with the help of Channel 4's OD and the use of sub-titles its "Sainte Sabine in the Lot". With a little more research I've found Sainte Sabine - Born which is between Fumel and Bergerac , in the Lot et Garonne. Part 4 should be more enlightening , but its the location of the filming which I am finding more and more intriguing.
8. Just asked my students , apparently ty is text speak for thank you.
9. I thought the French still used crin de cheval with their pate a joint?
10. Only seen a glimpse of the back of his house from the garden but it certainly reminds me of the style of building seen in the Lot. Hopefully Part 4 will be more enlightening.
11. Just watched the excellent adaptation of William Boyd's "Any Human Heart" on Ch. 4 last night (Part 2 of 4) . Basically its the fictional life story of Logan Mountstuart through most of the 20th century but it keeps showing him as an old man burning all his memorabilia in the garden of his home in the South of France. Just wondered if anyone knows where it was filmed. Maybe we get to find out in part 4 in 2 weeks time when the story reaches its conclusion.
12. This is true PaulT. In fact I did notice that the flight I gave up was £124 , a £100 increase from when I booked it , whereas my new flight was still showing at £25. Still I'm happy , MO'L is happy what the eck!
13. I was informed yesterday by E-mail that our flight to Bergerac on Thursday had been cancelled due to the ATC strike in France. We had options of a refund or a flight on the next available.I booked the Saturday flight on line. This meant that our stay would now only be just over 2 days so I rang their call centre to see if I could change our return flights. I was answered fairly swiftly and offered a later flight at no extra cost. In the light of extremely difficult operating conditions I think this was an excellent example of good customer relations.
14. For our Residence Secondaire its been 07/08 319e 08/09 334e 4.5% 09/10 345e 3.2% 10/11 362e 4.9% We are with CA (Pacifica). Principal rooms (Bedrooms and living room) = 4 Not interested in area except dependences Cottage and barn 140 sq m Swimming Pool.
15.
the euro is lower in the summer against the pound to encourage the tourists to visit europe then it goes back up in the winter
Quite a simplistic view , but there again most things in Economics and Politics are just that.
16. Bricomarche have a good selection of wooden ones at reasonable prices. I got a 700mm sq fully glazed with all hardware for about 70 euros.
17. If no cleaning / laundry is provided then presumably this is a another expense. If you are having to employ someone else to provide this then adding post checks and arranging access to their duties or perhaps doing it yourselves would save you in the region of 25% of your rental. Also an exclusive arrangement is a bit tying unless they guarantee a minimum rental income.
18. We are in the same situation , ours quoting 12.5% I suppose if they do not require exclusitivity and they can provide you with clients who are willing to pay at least 12.5% over what you would have accepted then its a win-win. The 12.5% is just for the marketing and providing bookings, Does your agency provide more?
19. Thanks for that Jan. I've just seen it on the internet mapping thingy.
20. I wonder if anyone can suggest a 24hr filling station near the airport at Limoges. We will be dropping off an hire car early in the morning before our return flight. We are picking the car up from Bergerac so will not have the opportunity to reccy the area beforehand. Thanks
21. They are very well insulated so I don't think they would freeze up. However the problem is if you don't drain off its difficult to ensure that the feed-in and feed-off pipes are completely drained and it would be these that would be most at risk. I have drained ours for the last 10 years with no apparant ill effects. Its a waste of 200l of water , I know , but we do have peace of mind.
22. Thanks also to everyone else for their much appreciated input. I think as things stand at the moment regarding CGT , if we want to sell our French property , selling our UK home and moving over to France for a "period" would be the best financial solution. If after a certain length of time we found that France was not for us we could re-purchase in the UK after selling our French home. The fact that "downsizing" in the UK is an option that we have considered makes this even more appealing.
23. Thanks for the info about the website. The pensionable age issue is only relevent in France I think. The major concern we have is CGT payable in the UK.
