1. I thought you'd seen this pest ?  Very difficult to fence against deer, they just jump over, would need to be 2m tall minimum, with the angled top adding more height, gets expensive !
2. Series Landys can fetch good money ?? Now then OP, would you be interested in swapping (with cash adjustment of course) the Opel for a Renault Kangoo 1.4 RN (petrol) yr 2000 RHD, on french plates at the moment, but of UK origin ?  Email me if you are as we could each do ourselves a favour  !!!
3. woops must read more carefully  -   Citroen my a*** !  Sorry. Still your prospective customers are not only Frenchies, are they not ?  seem to remember seeing on the magazine shelves in Smiths in the UK, there's Moving to France, Moving to Spain , Moving to whereever we can make up a magazine that someone will buy etc etc.  Whats the prix of an ad ? However, the car maybe LHD, but for what country was it built ?  Thats the key, as there are small differences for Germany, Italy etc etc. and another thing to spoil your day, you wont be able to register the car in France without a French address.
4. Its going to cost you to register it in France (Carte de Grise and headlamps) and you're assuming somebody in France will want to buy it. Why not stick it in one of the buying property abroad mags that the Brits dreamers drool over, you may get a bite.  But be realistic 200k km (or is that miles ?) is alot for a Citroen (yuke!) with dubious history - whys it in the UK on UK plates ????
5. Have you seen the price of these things - 10,000 € +   Incredible, you can buy a proper car for less.
6. Its a furry thing with legs and big ears.  They make great stew. but, I have a problem, can't seem to get it to fit any of the sockets on my PC - Pierre any clues ?
7. Thats the worse thing you could do Suninfrance (what sun !).  If you move it from its "home" it'll just try to find its way back and most likely get killed on the road or by a Fox.  Its become a pest by all accounts, so take a shot at it, or set the dogs on it.  Thats life in France, get used to it !  That namby pamby ah isnt it sweet approach is no good in the country.

Bay tree

Hah, yes of course.  Thanks Cassis, I'll give that a try. Also useful for those peskey Ash / Rowan trees that come from nothing to great big impossible to do anything with monsters !

Bay tree

Yes another warning on these sweet bay trees.  I have one growing out of the side of the four-a-pain.  Tried cuting it back to nothing (well almost, cant get to the base as its in the wall) and weed killer, it just seems to respond by growing back even stronger.  We love the bay leaves, but not when it threatens a stone building.  Anyone any clues on how I can kill it ?
10. A terrier of some sorts would sort it out.  Just let it eat the lot, better for it than crocquets ! If it is a little deer (no expense spared !) give the local Chase a call.  I think the hunting season has finished now, but it is a pest, is it not ?  and I'm sure the local Farmer's wife would delight in that !
11. Try a replacement hydrometer, 20 % doesnt sound right.  Even in dry heated rrom (electric heater) you should see more than 20%.  Try Bricolage type places for a replacement, or even a Agricultural outlet.  I've never used a incubator (I've always used a broody, they tend to know what they are doing !), but I would think you should leave the thing running for several days before introducing the eggs.  Also, I read that auto turning ones are much prefereable - is yours this type ?  If not mark the eggs with a x and a o so you know which way up they should be at any one time.  Place it in a shady place that doesnt experience big temp flucuations over the day / night.  Let us know how you get on.
12. LOL, thats why I said buy up market.  If you buy from the amateur end of the range then yes you have all these issues.  Buy a professional machine from around 500€ and they are a joy to use, as they say, you'll still be using and enjoying the machine, long after you've forgotten how much it cost.  Stihl are market leaders and produce excellent products, but ONLY when you buy from the pro range.  Just like any company, they have cheapies and its these machines, even with a Stihl badge on them that are throw away when in need of repair.  Buy a machine that will do the job YOU require of it.  If its just 30 mins per month during the summer, ok a cheapy.  But, if you need to use this thing for hour after hour, you've got to move up market. Re the 4 stroke machines, its been discussed here before and personally I'd stay away.  2 stroke is ideal for this application.  A light simple motor that can be used at all angles, you cant say that about a 4 stroke with its extra bits.  More complex head design, cam shaft and valve train, oil pump or splash lube.  Lower revving also and you only get 1 power stoke for every 2 revs of the crank compared to the 1 per 1 in a 2 stroke.  4 strokes need a stable platform (mower, rotovator, car  etc) not to be waved around in the air like a flag !  Mixing 2 stroke oil with a petrol is easy, come on !
13. I would read 1k24KG as 1240kg, ie the k is in the decimal point place for the weight to be in tonnes, if that makes sense ?  It could be written as 1.24 kkg ie 1.24 x million grams or 1.24 x 1000 kilograms or 1240 kg or 1.24 tonnes.  well, I know what I mean !!  If you'd studied engineering for countless years you'd know !
14. Ventilation is the key as already noted.  If you cant fit a vmc fit a wall fan venting outside - of course, it'll work just as well.  VMCs run at about 50W and the electricity can add up if you dont use it sensibly.
15. We dont have under floor heating but I'm considering it for the bathroom to save space.  We have friends who have a large farm house with total underfloor heating (ground floor) and tiles.  We all think its superb, lovely and cozy for socked feet.  No idea of the running costs, but I do note that when we have a planned visit all nice and snug, but we when turn up unannounced, all is cold ??  But, then I think thats normal, we do it !!!  I think the key is to zone the system properly with intelligent controllers and of course, the bug bear of all these french farmhouses, insulation.
16. Jeese Ern, get out the wrong side of the bed this morning !! Tea Ern  -  as Eric Morecambe used to say  LOL, slap on the head !
17. The concept of putting hens in a purpose designed house escapes the French, let alone, spending 300€ + for the pleasure.  and I bet its no more than some nailed together fencing panels or larch lap on a simple frame.  If you look in the Smallholding mags sold in the UK, the place is a wash with folks trying to sell you their version of a hen house, thats better than all the rest, funny old world isn't it. Last year I needed housing for 12 turkeys, and I bought a 3x3 m metal shed, from a supermarket - arbi de jardin, and its ideal with a few mods (ventilation and perches). You could try using an old 2CV or R4, very french !  or just get some plans and some timber, its not hard to do.
18. Depends on what you what it for.  250 € buys one that will is OK ish (and I 'd even be wary about that ) for light work, but for anything more serious you need to be looking at 500€ min,  Stihl is my favourite (FS300 up).  No such thing as cheap tools, they just bite.  A cheapie will be lost at the back of the shed inside 2 years, whereas a proper one will give you service for many years.  Also, parts are available for the pro ranges in Stihl, for Ryobi, its a bin job.
19.
Just the title of this thread made me read it. Legally I don't think you have a choice to register or not, it should read be legal or not.
Yep, no optiom I'm afraid mate.  It is also illegal to keep a car in France without insurance, another one to hit you were it hurts. I would very seriously consider selling the car in the UK, as you are going to have to jump through some serious red tape to get it registered.  All part of the move to France, I had to sell my RS200 replica - proper job, 10 years in the making - as part of my move.  I now enjoy tractors, there's nothing quiet like driving a tractor you've brought back to life over your own land, beats dodging speed cameras in a car that can do 0 -100 kph in a blink !! BTW, were you at Limoges Airport a couple of months ago ?  I so, I think I saw you - or rather, the car, not interested  in looking at you !!!!  If so, its a smart build, well done,
20. The problem with holiday homes.  If you were to move into the house on a permanent basis, you would have far more control of the situation, also I think the Maire would be more helpful.  As it is, its just another empty house thats ruining village life, so you can understand why its being used as a car park.  So 1st off move in !!
21. Ha, Bonjour Clair, long time no speak !  I trust all is well with you and Mr Clair.  All OK here. Many thanks for your quick reply.  I've sent an email to the property owner with the link of this thread.  Told him not to give up and start asking some questions, as it doesn't sound right to me.  Thanks again Phil
22. I was talking with a friend the other day and he told me of his experience of French property ownership.  He owned a derilicked barn for 18 years.  Bought it with Planning Permission, did nothing with it and the Planning permission was subsequently revoked.  Now, 18 years later, he is informed by the Maire that as the property is a ruin and he as not made any effort to do anything about it, the property is now owned by the Maire - those were his words, but I suspect he means the commune ?  He just accepted the situation, but I think he may have cause for complaint. Does the Mairie have these rights to just take property off people ?  I've heard of this type of thing happening in Spain, but not civilised France. Can anyone advise ? Many thanks Phil
23. Forget the acier trees, just go Inox, that'll solve your problem [:D]
24. I seem to recall that someone was fined for "stealing" electric from BT years and years ago, in fact I think it turned out to be a Court Case.  and, I think, he was using the phone line to charge batteries - there you go !!  It wasnt the OP was it hahaha!
25. or you could put up a sign telling the intruder to switch on the web cam and all its ancillary stuff and then detail how to log on to your account etc. The notice could also ask the intruder to switch everything off when finished to save the precious battery life (and of course the Planet)  ??   It just a suggestion [:D]
