  1. Hi Caj I have a Humax box in the UK and I have had no problems with it and would not hesitate to buy another. You do need a twin lnb for the two inputs so that you can watch one chanel and record another. I have an inverto twin lnb in the Perigord noir on the edge of the satalite footprint which feeds a Panasonic TV and it works very well. In my oplnion both good pieces of kit.
  2. It may be that the recent coldness has loosened the dish and it is dropping slightly. Ours does it occasionally. Being easy to get at we tilt it up a degree or two and that solves the problem. If your dish is on the chimney, best get Santa to have a look at it.
  3. Before we bought the house in france my hobby was growing and exhibiting xsanths but it had to stop due to lack of time. Different types of xsanth require different but similar over wintering. Best kept in a cold frost free place. Its better to propagate new plants from the old roots every year to retain virus free plants. For the the type Woolly is on about I would stop watering, let the plant almost dry out cut the foliage back to about 5 inches and thin out a bit. Remove all leaves at the end of December. Keep the compost a little damp. In march shoots should emerge from the roots and stems, when the shoots are about an inch and a half long cut them off with a sharp knife dip in rooting powder and plant 2 cm deep in cutting compost in trays in a bottom heated tray. Woolmans is a good site to look up but they wont send to France. Halls of hedon looks like they may send rooted cuttings to France.
  4. Good idea. Someone once told me to use tincture of peppermint to trace water courses. No good to me though, not much sense of smell !
  5. Hi CJ The ampage of a170 watt 12 volt kettle is about 14.2 amps. The ampage of a150 watt 12 volt kettle is 12.5 amp. I assume that you will be plugging into the Cigarette lighter socket. If that is the case then you need to know what the fuse rating of the socket is. If its rated at 15 you should be Ok with the old kettle but identify which fuse it is and carry a couple of spares.
  6. My favourite B.F. announcement is "Mont st Michel has smoke in her ears"
  7. Yes Wooley this seems a change for the better. The type is very clear on my tablet.
  8. Thanks for the response Peter. I have looked at the free utility programs and tried one but though it cleans the cache and compresses photos it doesnt defrag the memoy My wife has handed down her old phone to me. The first problem was that it had 1043 photos on. Even though i have deleted a lot of them it has not freed up much space. So i think that there are now a lot of blocks of unused memory not being shown as freespace thats why i want to try a defrag. The other problem is that it is a Windows phone and utility programs are not as readily available as android. I think in the end i will transfer the photos to PC. Then delete the lot and then transfer some of them back.
  9. On a PC you can run a disk clean up and also a defrag to make the PC run more efficiently. Does anyone know if you can do a similar process on a mobile phone?
  10. Hi. Have you thought about buying a dehumidifier ? Our vmc is good and solved a damp problem. However my daughter had the same problem as you. To make the situation worse the condensation leaked out and ran down a conduit into a light switch !
  11. Time someone was held responsible for a complete waste of time and taxpayers money, this situation cannot go away. Strange how the word advisory has just popped up. Also when cam said that there would be a referendum on the EU there was no mention of advisory or pre renogotian as he brought up about 6 months later. I honestly feel that i should stop paying rates and taxes. What is the point of voting. Its not a true democracy i know but i didnt know that it was as rotten an corrupt as this (alegedly) Its the old story heads they win, tails we loose. Bring on the revolution. What is the point of voting or doing anything
  12. Thanks Idun. I went to get some yesterday. At 5 e 63 I couldnt thoil it. So back to the washing up liquid !
  13. Can anyone recommend a french product or a product I can buy in France that is good for hand washing woollens ?
  14. We have seen more flocks fly over today, 2 this morning, 3 this afternoon and 9 this evening. Our elderly neighbour says that she has never seen as many as this before. Its interesting to see how their direction changes throught the day. More westerly in the morning to south westerly in the evening.
  15. Tonight we were sat outside when we heard an unforgetable noise. The grues. We have seen them before in other years but not as many as tonight. Five flocks came over with about 100 plus in each flock, three minutes apart heading southwest. Last year the first ones we saw flew over on the 13th Oct so are they early this year ?. Maybe a sign of an early winter ?
  16. Try loading lexibar. I think it may be what you are looking for.
  17. I have a similar problem. What i am going to do is dilute some PVA with water and seal the wall by brushing a couple of coats of that on. Leaving it to dry for a week then painting it over .
  18. Hi Jonz. Would the french equivilant of exterior ply do the job?
  19. In the U.K. there used to be a number (174) I think that would test if the ringer was working. I think that upon dialing the num ber and replacing the handset your phone would ring. Does anyone know if this can be done in France ?.
  20. Yes, Ive used Andys method but instead of a trowel I use a long carving knife and try to cut the plant as low into the ground as possible and then salt down the hole. The product to use to clear a larger area is in the U.K. called Verdone. I dont know if its sold over here or not. Ive used it and had good results. It also clears most plantains including the one that looks like a frail dandelion.
  21. Sea food is a bit of a risk but i love it and had no problem. S.I.L has had a couple of bad bouts. Its strange how many gastro upsets there are and no mention of Salmonella or Salmonella investigation ?. Also in mid April B.S.E was reported in northern France but there has been very little in the media. Is it a cover up or doesnt the government care. If it had been in the U.K. there would have been piles of cattle burning by now.
