Our dog failed his first test after just one jab and recently passed on his second test.  The clock is ticking now for him and he will be ready to travel in May 08.
2.
My friend has just bought a Nintendo Wii from Amazon France as she cannot get one anywhere over in the UK.  It is being delivered to my address in France.  She has just phoned to ask if the power supply in England will make any difference to its ability to work properly. I have told her that it will not - but am I right??? Suey
Just seen this and thought it may be useful for your friend http://www.komplett.fr/k/ki.aspx?sku=107052
3. Thanks for the recommendation and his prices do look attractive.  Have you purchased a PC from him?
4. Thanks can you post any links to recommended sites or send me a PM with the info
5. Apart from Dell, are there any other French companies who sell PC's built to order or customizable?
6. Thanks for all your replies, I will take a trip to CPAM some time this week.
7. Just received my CPAM letter advising loss of rights on 31/03/08.  Just wanted to understand the last paragraph and I am unsure if I need to do something to retain the rights until then.  Any ideas? pour bénéficier de cette prolongation je vous invite à vous présenter à votre caisse d'assurance maladie dans les meilleurs délais afin que le service compétent procède à l'enregistrement des droits dans votre carte vitale
8. About 2 years ago, I phoned and asked Paypal about this and they said it was frowned upon and could lead to a money laundering investigation against you.  However, they may have added this service now.  There suggestion was to use your own bank to do transfers.  Also on the subject of cheques, this is the least cost effective way of doing things and there seems to be not set charges, as I recently paid in a cheque at CA Languedoc for £150 and got a little over 150 euros in return, but on the flip side I paid a check in for £20 and got a about 28 euros.  They seem to make things up as they go along
9. I have been with them nearly 3 years and today I noticed a 1 euro commision relating to a 20 euro withdrawal I made at a Banque Populaire at the weekend.  Is this something new they have introduced?  Below is a copy of what shows on my internet banking *commiss. Retrait Deplace Carte Update Just called them and it turns out if you use a bank other than CA more than 6 times in a month to withdraw money, then they charge this commission.  Worth noting for other CA customers.
10. Update Our dentist has quoted 480 euros for a crown for the front tooth
11. Thanks for your replies
12. Does anybody know the cost of a crown in France?  Also is this covered under CPAM/Mutuelle?  It is a front tooth and I do not see it as vanity work but how is it viewed by the state?
13. Just wanted to update people on this post.  We have visited the dentist recommended by JSA Aude via PM and I must say he is one on the nicest dentists I have met.  He put my wife at ease and had a great bed side manner and was not rushed.  I would recommend him to anybody within a 2 hour drive for sure.
14. I have always looked at these type of companies and I think I may have started a similar thread on hear.  Most people seem to have great experiences, but as some people have said, do you really know who you are dealing with.  I use my bank to be safe.
15. Thanks for your replies and I knew you were joking.  Safe from crime etc.  I will look into the other suggestions you have given.  So is Melun not a particulary nice place to live?
16.
Seine-Saint-Denis is about your best bet.
Thought I'd check back for response and was shocked by your response.  This was one of the areas we would definately not live in!  Does anybody know what Melun is like, since it is still on the commuter route into Paris?
17. I think if you are covered under the CMU all end dates are the same, 31st September.  If you are under a E106, it is sometime at the begining of January.
18. I have yet to receive my letter either, but visited the pharmacy today and updated my CV and according to the lady behind the counter, my rights are still intact.  Anybody else have any comments?
19. Are avis d'impot and avis d'imposition the same thing.  I have received the former for the last 2 years but am now worried I do not have an avis d'imposition
20. Thinking of relocating to Ile de France and I am trying to find out the best/safest places to live.  Not looking to live in Central Paris but a maximum of 45 mins commute by train.  Any ideas please
21. Our bank also has a reverse cash machine where you feed money into it.  I have only used it once, although it was slow it worked well and you got a receipt for your money
22. I have read somewhere, that you need to have completed 120 hours work over a minimum of a 3 month period in a calendar year to qualify for social benefits.  This is then valid for 3 years.
23. If the Le Monde article is correct, it seems to say anybody who has CMU, whether they pay or not, would no longer be entitled to healthcare through the state system.  The only expats who would be covered would be people with an E form and people who have a French employer or are self employed and pay contributions to social security through another means other than CMU.  If this is true, it will affect a huge number of expats.
24. I have been to the chemist looking for Optrex Brightening Drops, but have not been able to find them.  According to their parent companies website, Optrex is not a licenced brand in France.  Does anybody now of any products in France that have a similar effect to the Optrex drops.  The link below is to the Optrex product. http://www.optrex.co.uk/products/Optrex_Brightening_Drops.php
25.
I agree with Will in principle, but the numbers you quote are not necessarily wrong.  If (for example) your taxable income was 18,000 and your household consisted of 2.5 "parts", that would result in tax of just over 200 which would be reduced to zero by the "décote".  I'm sure there are other possible explanations.
We are 2.5 parts so it sounds like the mystery is solved.  I think I was expecting more to pay or something, so this is great news
