  1. Does PointP recommend him because: a) he buys his materials from them or b) have they checked out his work and found it to be satisfactory
  2. This forum is written for IE - not all of us are slaves to Microsoft.
  3. Surely, you can charge TVA even if you are not registered for TVA - it will increase your profit :) Chancer I have seen the price of plasterboard and insulation in France but unless the OP has a room the size of a cathedral is 2,000 euros for materials a bit excessive?
  4. lindal1000 if I were making the rule on who was allowed to vote it would be for British citizens who are UK residents. The reason, well, those people would be subject to UK laws etc some of which are shaped by the EU. Those British citizens who are not UK resident will be subject to the laws of where they are resident and therefore not affected in the same way as British citizens who are UK resident.
  5. Chancer wrote: 'I have never owned a dishwasher and sincerelet hope I never will in my lifetime, too many people think they are too precious to do basic daily tasks and the offspring of such will in turn become ignorant of how to wash up by hand.' So does that mean that inspite of now owner a tumble drier that you do all your washing by hand after all, a washing machine would mean that you are too precious to do a basic daily task :)
  6. Coming in to this thread part way through, it would seem to me that Andy wants a vote in the referendum to serve his own self interest to carry on living outside of the UK as he has until now which may be at odds to what those living in the UK want and serves the UKs best interests. Seems a bit like someone wants the bus to stop at a particular place but does not actually use the bus.
  7. Just bought a new dishwasher from IKEA. One of the pieces of literature included is: Examples of the load of the baskets which contains a number of drawings of the baskets with an assortment of pans, crockery and cutlery. I do not know how I have filled a dishwasher for all these years without a copy of the document.
  8. Be aware that things can change - we had reasonably good speed but lately it is extremely poor.
  9. To quote Iduns post: 'Remember Opas's husband getting arrested for driving a french registered lorry in the UK, and from what I have read he was a french resident AND like all other internationa drivers had a right to do that. So the police do know about this, and in that particular case, it would seem, got it wrong. In this case, it would not be wrong, if the OP brought their car back.' Do search for Opas posting re her husbands fun and games - does not make happy reading. Depends how lucky you feel.
  10. Norman, glad that you seem to be on the mend albeit with some set backs. Grecian, wishing you all the best.

    Cherries

Wow, our tree is giving an absolutely superb crop of cherries this year, the best in 8 years. In addition, found something that kills the weeds in the grass, having tried many products. The only problem an absolutely superb crop of grass in the 10 weeks since we were last at the house.

    Norman

Has anyone heard how WBs playmate is doing? If you are reading this Norman I am sure best wishes for a speedy recovery from all.
  13. Always find it strange that the English cricket team (great win by the way and a thoroughly fascinating Test) has South Africans, Australians etc in it.
  14. Q wrote: ' Labour has removed its objection to a referendum on the EU. This is not standing by their principles it is pandering to the minority of people in the hope of gaining a vote or two.' and 'We need to get it over and done with and move forward within the EU.' So we do not need a referendum as Q says the result will be to stay in the EU :)
  15. Rabbie wrote: ' IMO the reason Cameron won was because he appeared to be more credible as Prime Minister than Miliband. He also fought a much better campaign tactically than his opponents.' Think the Scottish lassie did Millibean no favours, especially the end to austerity - we have seen what has happened to Greece with a spend, spend attitude. Perhaps as well, Labour playing to their union masters with workers having the power - huge pay rises, what would the do for the economy Denial of the last Labour administration overspending. The constraints put on the Tories by their LibDem associates - human rights act etc. For me, the Tories record seemed to be the better choice. Perhaps as well, who knows apart from those close to him, what Balls is really like but for me he did not come across very well. Time will tell.
  16. An interesting interview: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-32852568
  17. Remember seeing a programme about people who owned passenger jet airliners. One American company owner had something like a 707 very nicely fitted out. He commented that when he flew commercially he always flew economy and on that basis none of his staff could ever demand to fly anything other than economy.
  18. Do I remember correctly that one of the very large UK haulage companies hit on registering their lorries in Holland to save money but then discovered a problem such that their lorries are now all registered in the UK. Perhaps, if the UK did not have the RFL they would be less strict on driving a foreign registered vehicle. As for the MOT, a two year period has been rejected. Cars pre 1960 do not have to be tested but many concerned classic car owners of pre 1960 cars still have them tested.

    Spectacles

Finally got my OH to order her new spectacles. She had her eyes tested at an independent opticians. She found a nice 'designer' frame at £170 (presumably, there are frames that have not been designed and these are picked off of trees). She searched on the Internet for the frame and found an optician selling them for £108. She phoned and they would only sell the frames not also make up the lens without her visiting them and the distance said 'NO'. I suggested going back to the original optician to see if they wanted the business for which they would need to sharpen their pencil. They came up with £287. Taking in to account the cost of postage for the £108 frames and then sending them and the prescription to an online company for the lenses to be made (vari focal, reactolite, coated etc) there would only be a few pounds difference. Out of interest would we have been better off having buying them in France or the UK?
  20. In answer to: PaulT wrote: To the OP what Ernie says about variation, yes there is. However, if you arrive with an 80cm and it does not work then what do you do. Where I am in 31 had an 80cm dish which was fine until they introduced the UK spot beam. Replaced with a 1.3m and it seems less tolerant of rain than before. Plus, reception varies at certain times of the year. Also, aligning a dish to the spotbeam is also a lot harder. You should, in theory be better off than us. It really has to rain hard here to lose the picture, I mean like 'stair rods'.What make/model LNB are you using? Positive it is the Inverto Black octo LNB. Channels on the wide beam are no problem (unless the rain is as it was for Noah) just the spot beam. There could be slight interference from a tree about 14m away. However, in good weather signal strength and quality is high. Someone I know bought a new larger dish and was having big problems with reception. Turned out the dish was distorted. The other thing with a large dish is that it has more wing force acting on it. When I had aligned mine I drilled through the support and used a nut and bolt to hold it in position. The diameter of the thread of the bolt is slightly less than the hole size and did move very slightly in a high wind but did mean that it only needed a slight tweak to get reception back. I will replace it with a shouldered bolt to fix it more firmly in place.
  21. I think I read somewhere that if they do not contest their seat then they lose out on redundancy hence even if there is no hope of being re-elected still stand. As for Carswell, do you think he might say 'Dave, I have seen the light' :)

  23. Mint wrote: ' IDS remains to finish off his plan of savage cuts to Welfare' Where my OH worked they had a number of staf who would not work one second over 18 hours 'cos I'll lose me benefits'. There was no physical or come to it mental reasons why they could not work more than 18 hours and the work was there. No, they preferred the taxpayer to make up their income. Why should I as a taxpayer pay them not to work?
  24. The Government has thought of that and it makes checks going out and in, for a fee it will provide the insurance companies with details of your comings and goings- possibly
