1. Be very careful about using stainless steel fixings, they are not the cure all that people believe them to be as they fatigue and crack leading to fracture. Also be very careful about going off Godins design as you can be introducing other factors i.e. larger bolt can lead to overstressing in other areas. I would suggest you get professional help. Sorry to hear about the narrow escape and hope it all comes good in the end..   Charlie.......
2. Ta Bugs, that's November ruined......... Charlie...
3. Bugs, just brilliant.............Where do you get em!!!!!!! Charlie.................
4.

I have a different view, if thats OK with you, of course. The recent financial collapse events regarding comments made that resulted in a rate drop are pretty clear to both me, and many others.
Of course you are entitled to any view you like.  But when two things happen, it is still a fallacy to conclude that one must have caused the other.  Have you considered that the fall might have taken place anyway?
So it's not related alanb that whenever Mervyn opens his mouth my pension drops? Charlie.

6. Hello Richard, try gogaling Belzona, not sure if you can purchase it in France though you may need to get it sent out from UK? Best of luck. Chas....
7. Thanks Chris, that sounds much more civilised than lighting bonfires and rushing around with mortar. [:D][:D][:D]   Charlie........
8. Hello, we seem to have bumble bees nesting in the wall of the house. I have seen them coming and going for a few weeks, they enter and leave through a small hole in the mortar. Can anyone advise what options we have.   Thanks   Charlie P.S move is not on the agenda![:(]

11. Hello Steve, are we saying the pump is now running OK and not cutting out? Not into electrics but the white cylinder you describe is the condenser to allow starting the motor under full load without tripping (I think)???  Obviously without seeing the valve set up thats about as far as I can go. If you can post pic's that may help.   Charlie.....
12. Hello Steve, the pump may have cut out initially due to overload caused by not being run for a while or debris in the pump bowl. If there is air in the pump you'll probabley hear it hissing as it gets suction and then loses it? I'm not sure of  pool set up's but would suggest that if you've got any sticking valves you need to sort that 1st. If it's a non return valve a LIGHT tap with a hammer may do the trick?   Best of luck.   Charlie.
13. Hello Ab, when priming you only need to close any outlets that are below the pump body, anything above will allow air to escape out of the system. Any that are difficult to get to should be closed off before starting the pump, any with easy access leave cracked until the pump is fully primed (bearing in mind the electrics) don't allow the starter or motor to get soaked.............    Charlie.
14. Hello Ab 1st the pump may need to be primed to regain suction. open the valve and allow water to fill the pump body completley, now restart the pump with the valve partialy open this will allow any air trapped in the pump bowl to escape so ensuring the best suction you can get. Be aware of any electrics that may get wet! 2nd If after priming the pump she still won't work I would suggest you check your impellor, this is a specialist job but if you need advise pm me and we will see if we can work through it. Best of luck   Charlie.
15. Hello Sue, I have a friend who used polish labour and it was a disaster. The work was shoddy, the standard of work was appalling and if questioned the foreman became aggressive. This is unbelievable but true they actully lived in my friends property while working on the house next door even though the work was unfinished (this was the winter with eletic radiators all through the house), the Poles have now left and the work is still unfinished, we aren't talking about cosmetics, wiring not connected to the fittings, walls unplastered, hot water system not working etc etc. While I'm sure there are reputable polish companies I would strongly advise you cross all of you t's etc. I would also advise you manage the project and don't leave them to their own devises, a mistake made on this job.     All the best of luck.   Charlie.........
16. Hi, has anyone used fly traps, we have some rather nasty biting beasts that don't seem to worry about sprays etc. Thanks Charlie
17. Correct Bug's,   compare the price of a gallon of petrol with a gallon of Guiness, taking into account all of the technology to get it to the pump it's probabley one of the most taken for granted products we use. FOR NOW? It is also a fact that people are making lots of money on a suposed shortage that isn't there.    Charlie.........
18. Spot on Bugs, profiteering by market traders and oil companies.............   Charlie.....
19. As I was moving over to france I phoned the DVLA to ask what to do re license  the reply was "do as the french do over here, whats that? nothing". Good to see you back SD.   Charlie.......
20. This is absolutley true Gluey, french neighbour ran an eletric fence out for her horse, threw the switch, unbeknown to her her 9 year old son was tangled in the wire at the time. Her son doesn't like horses any more. Chas....[:'(]
21. You have touched on yet another of the EU's frailities, Cathy! They are so busy building their Ivory Towers and tributes to their own supernal arrogance, they persistantly miss the obvious. Those who build towers need to also build moats.   Who's that Gluey, husbands???   Chas......[:D][:D][:)][;-)]
22. If you do your own gas repairs you can go out with a REAL bang.............
23. Funny job but when I read it I felt the lady was a tad nieve? We've lived here 2 years now and I don't think I'd even attempt to arrange car insurance over the phone, there where other comments in the artical that I thought were iffy to say the least, maybe I am looking at this from a blokes point of view????  Capricorn at that!!!     Charlie.
24. Hello sweet 17, I thought it was us, we moved here from Pemb's 2 years ago and since then it hasn't stopped raining. We bought a couple of water butts in April, all installed and attached to the new guttering, we waited for the rain to fill them, when it started they were overflowing in a day!!!!!!!!! Since then it hasn't stopped for long, my OH who knows about these things assures me the weather is improving at the weekend?  Last week we had the mother and father of a hail storm, the size of marbles,oh well.   All the best Charlie.......
