1. I work in the UK - where I have 2 UK registered vehicles.  My family lives in France where we have a french registered vehicle.  I occasionally visit on a UK registered motorbike but do not leave it in France - I try to use Ryanair for most visits.  If you are resident in France then your vehicle should be french registered.  If you work in the UK and occasionally visit France then your vehicle should be UK registered.  Trying a fudge will end in tears 'cos the authorities will ask, after an incident and/or they are suspicious, for proof that you are just visiting with the UK registered car - proof such as a ferry ticket with the registration number on it. Simple as that really - looks like you need reassurance that what you are doing is right ......... just wait for the next answer that suits your situation, print it off then use that as your convincing arguement with the authorities.
2. We have just had 1000 sq m cleared of some 50+ tree roots (it was an overgrown copse that we have now reduced to some 20 healthy trees), area levelled then a 1.5m high green mesh fence erected to surround area (Posts concreted as required) - for our ducks, chucks and geese. They set the fence just inside the foundations of existing and removed walls so that 'M Renard' can't dig under it.  He will just have to jump over it instead!! Total cost was 3000 euros. regards Vern
3. I might add that the R series tourers are the bees knees for touring.  I have owned the R1150RT and currently own the R1200RT.  I have 5 x 1000 mile days and 1 x 1400 miles in 30 hours (inc Hotel rest of 6 hrs and ferry crossing).  They are very comfie and I have got off the bikes at the end of the days and been able to walk!!  The R1200RT does not have much over 106 bhp but it surprises many with its turn of speed on A and B roads.  I remember my R1150RT kept up with a couple of spanish superbikes in northwest spain - they were amazed and invited me to their club bar for a nosh.  I have had scratchers - my Ducati comes to mind - but comfort counts when you are 48. regards Vern
4.
Hi, In answer to the above, yes I have imported a motorhome into the UK, it took one day, The only bit of paper needed was the one with the chassis number on, was able to get an mot cert and a new log book, easy. As to the trailers being in better condition here in france, come off it. They as in the UK don,t need any inspections, so what makes them better for the road ???? Also HAVE YOU SEEN THE horrendous atrocities being towed behind white van man 2 feet behind ones bumper, come off it please. As to the red tape, Yes there is loads of it, One can check the prices of trailers on the net for the whole of europe and yet due to french red tape its impossible to import a better and far cheaper trailer into france if there is not a dealer network here to issure a cert in french for the CG.   Thats what I call a closed shop. Yet did the common market mean free trade?? yet France is not allowing imports into the country even if the item meets all of the EU set standards, I think that answers that. And please take note I was asking for advice, and please don,t start with if you don,t like it move nonesense michael
Bit of a rant - I am sure it was not aimed at those trying to help you but it might have had more effect on a different thread.   I have an Ifor Williams trailer - a robust beast that has served us faithfully (all over the continent) for 14 years.  regards Vernon Dubious pleasure of importing vehicles to Gibraltar, France and the UK.
5. SWMBO makes our bread, cake etc however catering for dinner parties sounds good.  Which part of France are you in.  Keep this forum posted on your website details - interested to see prices. What is your experience in the catering trade? Will you be registered? regards Vern
6. I pay 40% to HMG and pay no additional to french authorities.
7. I work in the UK, SWMBO and boys live in France.  As a serviceman I pay tax to UK and declare my earnings as described above to the French Impot.  There is no choice - you are obliged to declare your earnings to the french tax authorities - do something else and they may assume you have something to hide.
8. Hi, Grateful for info on suitable DVR or PVR that works with Sky FTA.  Not interested in Sky+ at £10 pcm.  I have searched the archives but nothing was immediately apparent. Grateful for retailer of compatible DVR / PVR. Thank you
9. Thank God that personal plates aren't a p^^^s extension for the poorly endowed!!  We will stick with the great unwashed with the knowledge that those driving behind us won't think the same.
10. The rules may have changed but in 2004 the requirement was for 2 orange vests in a car.  We used to stash and then forget about them.  We were living in Gibraltar but driving into Spain on a weekly basis.
11. I was able, after exporting our car from the UK to France then Gib, to re-register the car on its old plates on our return to the UK.  I was able to do this because I had informed DVLA that the car was exported - not SORN'd or any of the other nonsense we see with cars in France.  Last year on my families return to France the car was put on to its old matriculation plates cos (you've guessed it) I had informed the french authorities that the car had been exported to Gibraltar - re-matriculation took less than 10 minutes.  If you are upfront with authorities at the start of the process it is remarkably simple to sort your vehicle out. Here endeth the lesson for the sharks out there.
12. I presume that your license would allow you to drive an A class motorhome - something that a french driver would need to take a test for.  Nice one!!
13. Well we have at last heard from (name of company deleted)  After having our money for 30 days and telling us it was: 1.  With the transporters - not giving us tel number to arrange delivery. 2.  Recalled to manufacturer for fault - LG WD14401TD - OH YES!!! After we sent an e-mail asking for confirmation they have cancelled the order after 33 days and told us under the terms and conditions we must wait a further 30 days for repayment.  This is the first internet transaction I have done , anywhere in the world, that has gone south. This company's HQ is based in London and I have their trading address if anybody has problems with them. Will give them 30 days then surprise them in London. We are now purchasing from a store in Ruffec recommended to us.
14. To be fair to Ryanair if, after selecting no bags, you then click ''remove'' found highlighted in blue on your left of the screen then this fee disappears - unless of course you want 'priority' boarding.  Priority boarding always makes me laugh - first on and many times last off 'cos you are hemmed in by others.  I would much rather be last on and first off, with no hold luggage, so first thru customs at Poitiers ... To be fair to Ryanair 1.  It is cheap 2.  It is cheap 3.  .......... YOU SEE THE TREND
15. Another dodgy individual dragging down the reputation of those that follow the rules.  God help us.  Bets that next question will be whether he can keep his car , without MOT and Tax, on UK plates followed by how he can claim benefits off the french system.
16. You ask for chickens at point of lay.  At Lezay they are around 3 euros each.
17. IMHO, and SWMBO agrees, everyone is entitled to their own opinion .... just you are wrong.
18. Chains ... those were the days.  Still SWBO finds lots of other cleaning jobs that get me just as dirty.  Previous bikes over 31 years : 1 x YAS1  125 (Yamaha), 1 x Honda Dream 250, 1 x Honda 750 F1, 1 x VFR750, 1 x Ducati 900SS, 1 x BMW R1150RT and now a R1200RT. Bet you can't spot my sad attempt to regain my youth!  For comfort and covering a 1000 miles quickly the Beemer is hard to beat - yea other bikes go quicker but then they need filling more often (over 100 mph will still cancel your license whatever bike you are on).
19. One scam SWBO watched in disbelief was only half the groceries being scanned for a 'friend'.  SWBO looked at the bill on the little screen and it was laughable - sadly it is all of us who pay in the end.
20. I would suggest after the fraud the scammer could remove cash from the till!!
21. At least it is not an advert by DaVinci homes!!
22. Does not fill you full of confidence ... however what is the percentage of dissatisfied customers.  At least SWBO can chase from France and I can chase from the UK to their HQ!! Will confirm ease or otherwise hopefully soon. regards Vern
23. Val2, Many thanks I have just purchased the same for 481 euros thru Maniaprice.  Delivery included. regards Vern
24. Good morning folks, Our trusty washing machine is giving up the ghost after some 7 yrs.  Grateful for advice on purchase of new one: 1.  Any good internet sites?  If they go wrong within warranty does the repair take place onsite? 2.  A look at MoinsCher suggests the standard warranty is one year - in the UK they are now up to 5 years.  Anybody suggestions on washing machines in France with extended manufacturers warranty as standard? 3.  We live near Chef-Boutonne in Dept 79.  Any good white goods shops you are aware of?  Again if they go wrong, are they repaired onsite or have to be returned to outlet? 4.  SWMBO reckons on her standard approach which is buy a reasonably cheap one and who cares if it breaks 2 years down the road (the last cheap one, an Indesit, lasted 7years) 5.  SWMBO list of desirable points includes 1400 rpm minimum, down to +30 C and a minimum 7 kg.  Anybody recommend a model they have? I have used the search option to no avail. Thanks in advance Vern
