  1. Pete   Look at the FAQ's at the top of the page, look under TV in France it's all explained there.
  2. Yes, should be no problem, a 60cm dish will normally work here but I would advise buying an 80cm one to be safe. Be careful when aligning the dish as apparently a new satellite has now been positioned only 3 degrees from Astra 2.
  3. Like the rest I receive about 30 or 40 spam a day. I now subscribe to an anti-spam programme called Cloudmark at www.cloundmark.com it works fine and now blocks all my spam in a special 'spam' box. I have enough confidence in it now that I don't even check the box before emptying it.
  4. As long as you monitor your water level you should be able to draw just from the skimmers. Most people keep the skimmers fully open and just 'crack' the bottom drain. Obviously when vacuuming you use the aspirator inlet and adjust the taps accordingly.
  5. First try the easy things. Unplug the digibox from the mains and leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes then plug it in again, this sometimes clears a jam inside the box.
  6. How do you test for cyanuric acid? I have a bundle of test kits and none seem to be for this particular test.
  7. I have the same problem. I can send pictures by MMS to other French mobiles but not to the UK, I am on Orange.
  8. I don't know if this is of any use to you but there is a system called Oxymatic which sanitises swimming pools whithout the need for added chemicals, their site is at http://www.staraqua.com/3.htm
  9. I have a friend whos salt pool does not seem to be producing natural chlorine, it would appear that the salinator is defective. Perhaps someone (Andrew)? could tell me if it is possible to continue with the pool by simply turning it into a chlorinated pool via the adding of multi-function gallets and monitoring of the ph level . At the end of the season, on his return he can investigate the replacement of his salinator.
  10. Why am I being drawn into this........OK, so I have constructed my 'trench' (or possibly soon to be a moat) so how do I get to my pool? Perhaps I could absail down the sides of the trench, or provide ladders (oh no, that would be against the regulations). Well alright, I will provide a drawbridge properly constructed,oh but then I need a compliant gate etc, etc, etc. Enough said.
  11. OK, so the 1st of June has come and gone, any news on the outcome yet?
  12. We inherited an above ground pool which had been put in below ground when we purchased our house some 6 years ago. It did good service for a few more years before due to liner problems we put in a solid one. Liners have a limited life and, when they need changing it can be a much more difficult job when the pool is in the ground, otherwise it's a good idea.
  13. Rule of thumb, water temperaute in degrees C divided by 2 equals hours to run the pump, very rough and depends upon pump being the right throughput for the pool.   Bobwils
  14. Thanks Tel (from one retired fire officer to another)! System restore is on and there is over 3 meg of disk space devoted to restore points so it is neither of them. It may be that Windows updates are somehow deleting them.   Regards Bob Wilson
  15. Having diligently set up several restore points via Windows XP recently I was surprised on checking to find none (except the one I had just set up) were shown. It was also not possible to move back to the preceding month to check any there. Has anyone any idea why they would be wiped out or who has been stealing them?
  16. If you have signal strength but no quality my expierience tells me you are pointing at the wrong satellite. It is difficult without a meter but I suggest you turn it about another 10 % right (very rule of thumb) or fork out about 60€ and get a 'satman' with a meter to do it for you.     Bobwils
  17. Thanks Daryl but both options drew a blank, nothing shows although they are definately on there, the laptop doesn't seem to recognise 'home made' DVD's, pictures or video clips, its fine with CD's and bought DVD's (i.e. films) but not with the ones I have recorded, weird.   Bobwils
  18. I recently copied a load of holiday photos from my harddisk onto a DVD using my laptop's internal DVD recorder, opened the DVD afterwards, checked they were there and then stored the DVD away. Yesterday I put the DVD back in and there was nothing shown as being on it. Used my wifes laptop DVD player and there they all were. The pictures were saved as jpegs, my player opens other CD's and DVD's no problem, anyone have any idea why my laptop now refuses to show anything on this particular DVD?    Bobwils
  19. Just to re-kindle this one, I have recently installed a new product from Microsoft called Windows Live Onecare. find it at http://www.windowsonecare.com/ It is an all encompassing programme, free at present but eventually it will cost about 20$ per year. For this you get an anti-virus, anti-spyware (Windows Defender is part of the whle package), a computer tune-up facility and an automatic back-up facility. It is very 'set and forget', runs in the background and is unobtrusive. You do have to un-install any existing anti-virus software (it does this for you) to avoid conflicts. I keep this now with Ad-Aware SE and Spybot search and destroy as a check, might suit those who aren't 'techies' as its very easy to install and run.
  20. We are permenant residents in France and have been for six years. Our 17 year old daughter wishes to take French nationality but also wishes to keep her British nationality does anyone know if this is possible, anybody done it, any pitfalls etc.   Bobwils
  21. As previously advised, use OE, there is no limit on your in box, compressing your messages does not move them it just speeds up (or prevents slowing down) of OE. You don't have to use OE,nowadays there are other very similar E-mail facilities such as Firefox.
  22. Ccleaner is a super fast clean up facility which cleans all cookies, temp files etc from your PC. It has a useful facility which allows you to keep those cookies which you want to from sites you trust (do this from the 'options' 'cookies' area on the interface). I have run this utility for several months now and wouldn't be without it, you can download it from www.filehippo.com .  As with most others in this thread I dumped Norton some months ago, went to AGV free, MSN Defender, Ad-Aware SE and the firewall on my Netgear modem/router.    A bientot   BobW
  23. Yes Lee, thanks to a white knight who I have sent the document to for the extraction of the photos.   Regards   BobW
  24. I want to E-mail just a photograph I HAD somewhere on my computer, can't find it now exept on a word document. How can I lift the picture from the word document to be able to E-mail it, right clicking the photo doesn't bring up the 'save picture as' option, anybody any ideas?   BobW
