1. Wow, I never knew I could do that. Thank you Christine. [:D] Edit: and Tresco, I keep posting at the samer time as others.
2. Alliards, that is very interesting, I wonder why they are predicting such huge increases in Northern Ireland. But at least you caught it on the up and not the other way around and no one not even the so called experts can predict for sure what will happen next year and it certainly looks a good time to buy in France. We bought two years ago in France when there was very little on the market and it was at its peak on its way down [:(]. It appears to be a real buyers market so you will have your choice of wonderful property here, lucky you. Should we assume you are one of the 56% [:)]
3.
All it means is 56.%something people who did the pole may be looking - you do not have to visit that page to get to the forum, I rarely look there................when you first visit you should come via that route but you do not have to do the poll in order to continue, so by the time you have taken those factors into account, it really doesn't tell you much at all.
Yes, I am sure you are right, however, after a while I always end up ticking a box and participating simply because my curiosity gets the better of me, some of the results have been interesting.  It would be even more interesting for me at least to see the numbers participating not just percentage. But what I don't understand is after a little while they will ask you the same question again. Not sure what that accomplishes for them. Please tell me the other way of getting into the forum. I always come that way and have to go through a few pages first, I would imagine for first timers this could be quite confusing because there is no instruction to tell you to go to the bottom of the page that pops up for the second time, have always found this annoying. 56% still seems high to me for a percentage of forum users house hunting this summer though.
4. I am really surprised to see that almost 60% of the forum users are going to be house hunting this summer. In fact I find that statistic amazing. I was of the mind that most of the people using the forum already owned properties in France but perhaps many just don't bother to post. It is also interesting because we hear so much of the slump in the property market in France as well as the UK, perhaps this is an indication that things are changing or could the poll be inaccurate. In any case 60% [:-))]
5. I agree with Teamedup and Opas. I would not consider doing or planting anything until the builders sort it out. You have just bought a brand new property with a serious problem. Sorry, but I would not let them get away with it!
6. No not your acronym, I was actually referring to my statement "a new one on me" of which I would commonly use but because of the thread it made me think about what it actually meant. But I do have to agree that I do find acronyms that I don't understand annoying mainly because it makes me feel like Mother. I remember as a kid having to explain things to her and now I need someone to spell things out for me, makes me feel old and out of it I guess.  Oh well, at least I have learned a new one [:)]
7. Tresco, didn't see your post. Didn't think to put acronym in the search, maybe that is why it took me so long. [:)]
8. Oops just found it on google after all [:-))].  Scarlett, it is an acronym and the first three letters stand for Jumped Up Little, I will let you figure out the fourth , it is definitely a new one on me.  Thinking about it, perhaps that saying could win a few votes on the annoying list. [:)]
9.

OK 3K, well here we go. Management Buzz words. Crossing the Rubicon: what the hell does that mean?
As I remember (and I could be wrong)...When Julius Caesar returned from fighting the gaulish wars he announced his desire for a bigger slice of power in Rome. He was told that he should be happy as part of a triumvite and that he should bring his army no closer to Rome than the Rubicon river. After pausing for thought for a few days, he (and his army) crossed the Rubicon and entered Rome. I believe that it was at this time JC was crteditied with saying "alea jacta est" - the die is cast. He crushed the triumvite and became Dictator of Rome. It is quite amusing to hear JULFs in cheap suits comparing themselves to Julius Caesar.
I also googled but still do not know, please tell us what a JULF is?
10. As regards to the riots versus democracy issue; doesn't this just encourage groups to join mobs and do whatever is necessary to disrupt the country and perhaps even including violence to get their way? I would be very surprised if there will now ever be a politician in France to make an unpopular necessary decision. In my humble opinion in regards to polls in France or in the US as was mentioned, they change as the wind blows. I for one would not want my government to make important decisions based on them and that would include the loudest and most disruptive group at the time. Good point Most Holy, but still have to put my resources in the UK not France. But as I said will reap all of my rewards in a country that I could not work in or contribute to. Just my experience.
11. Wow, well, I for one am a bit shocked and disappointed as well, I guess mob rules well in France. I too have to agree with Deby, SB and Hastobe and also have to admit that I personally believe that Socialism just doesn't work. I can't argue on the grounds of statistics and I am not quite 50+ yet but if it was easier to start a business in France, my husband and I would be coming over to live permanently sooner rather than later. As I have mentioned on here before, we do plan on retiring in rural France one day once we are able to secure our future here in the UK. Shame, because we will not be employing anyone or contributing to the French economy but will continue to contribute to the UK economy. Surly we are not the only ones that the system encourages to do nothing and contribute nothing. Having said all of that, I believe that the laid back way of life and of course the history and beautiful countryside is what attracts many here, it is wonderful for retirement.
12. I am not sure what we would pay for that in our part of France but if it is any consolation we would pay a lot more here in the UK. I am always flabbergasted at the bill particularly if there are tests or scans needed. If we didn't have pet insurance, the  problems my two dogs have had over the last few years, including one getting Piroplasmosis (sp?) (tick disease) in France, we would have had to take out a mortgage  [:'(]. Seriously though our Vet bills have been in the thousands the last few years and the medication needed for my dog's hip displasia is over £200 every six weeks and he only just turned eight. We considered cancelling Petplan a few years back thinking it was very expensive and a waste of money because we only needed it a few times. Thank goodness we didn't, I would imagine that the last few years have covered the costs already and as I mentioned both of my dogs just turned eight. I would definitely recommend doing this if you have a young dog, as they get older you may be lucky but you never know, I guess the same could be said about us as well [:)].  Our excess has gone up to £90 for each but has and will save us a fortune. SB, costs aside, it sounds a terrible accident for your poor dog, I know I would find it very difficult if one of mine had to have a plaster on it's leg for a month. [:(]  I hope he is better now.
13. Congratulations Sunshine! [:D] Either you are very lucky or a big indication of the market changes in the past two years. It took us over a year to find our house. Well Done.
14. I know some might find it offensive but I think it may be meant as just a silly joke. It is probably related to the Crazy Frog craze a few months back. Perhaps a turn on words and someone's idea of being clever, instead of Crazy Frog they are using Lazy Frog, the frog cartoon in the link even looks similar.
15. Come on then Boris, did you ever find a hotel?  Would be interested to learn what you decided and what area you decided on, particularly after seeing the beautiful places mentioned in the thread on offer.  Do tell [:)]
16. Hi Rob Roy, it doesn't make much sense to me why the mayor of Bergerac would invest in the Brive airport but would be very interested if anyone knows anymore on this. Also, does anyone have any new news on the opening of the Brive airport?
17. Chessie, I am so sorry. I have just posted a response to your terrible news on the Pets Forum.
18. Chessie, I am so sorry, can only imagine what you are going through. But as been mentioned, you have done the kindest and most selfless thing you could do for your cat. Just because he seemed aware at the time of the second injection does not mean that he was. In many cases the pet owner is not even present. So I am sure you being there with him must have been a real comfort and now he is in peace after a long life with a very caring owner. I am sure you have many happy memories of him, best to think of those and not just the last few seconds.  My heart goes out to you but you could not have done anything better. All the best. Wendy
19. Yea, thank you, well done. I do love the old smilies [:D].
20. Hi, be very careful about so called French property specialist solicitors based in the UK. We found that the one we used (advertises in the French mags) was a complete waste of money. If we were to do it again I would have set up a meeting with an English speaking Notaire in France or a French Avocat.  There doesn't seem to be any comeback for a solicitor giving bad advice on French laws if they are based in the UK.  Just our experience. Best of luck.
21. Chessie, I know what you must be going through, I went through a couple of scares recently with my pets. At least it sounds as if you have found a very good vet and you are doing everything possible for him.  Please let us know how he gets on.
22. I find this very interesting because one of our two dogs became ill a few months back and I was told by our vet here in the UK to give him chicken and rice only. So this is what I gave both of them for about a month. The vet then said this is not something you can keep them on longer than about six weeks and that I must now start giving them dog food because it has all of the nutrients that they need. They absolutely loved this of course and I asked him if there was something I could supplement chicken and/or beef with such as vegetables or anything else to give them nutrients and he said no. This would not be nutritional enough for them long term and I would need to give them dog food. I have not read the book that has been mentioned but would be interested to know for those of you that don't give dog food if you supplement with anything else?
23. Hi Tresco, off both subjects I know, but just noticed your post after mine. As you can see I am still having trouble with those darn Smilies
24. Well said Logan   My sentiments exactly, just wish I could have said them as you did, well done. I personally don't believe that if France were to prosper and to have a brighter future it would mean that those here would lose their rural idyll that so many are frightened of losing.  Unfortunately, change is inevitable regardless of whether France prospers or declines. Therefore, I for one do love France and the French way of life in the beautiful countryside (even with all of the little pink boxes popping up in some very surprising places     ) but I also want to see it  prosper and do well and have its young in employment. In fact, we would be moving over permanently much more quickly if it was easier to do business and to make a living in France. As it stands now we must wait until we can retire and unfortunately at that time will not be much of a contribution.
25. Gosh Grays, I agree with Hardhat. It looks really good for that price. I too would be tempted to sell it as a home and not a gite. I would think you would have a much broader market and it looks as if it would make a lovely home and on a river as well. Best of luck.  Let us know how you get on.
