  1. All the above and more,us brits have less stress.Ever worked for a french firm with real french bosses?I have and told more than one to.....ermm I will not work for them and walked away because I could, now if I were french I would eitheir be used to it or have to put up with it.We have more than one or two french friends who have told us they are on trancs, sad but true.
  2. Make sure that the jets on the hob are for the right gas,we bought a hob in Spain the other week, and I had to change the set up.
  3. I prefare the seaside and yachts not going down a river in a canoe or hanging off the side of a mountain,so for me there is very little do.Horses for courses, land is much less expensive than the neighbouring deparments, driving back yesterday I saw more brit car in 30mins than I do in month, and even a brit reg builders wagon??
  4. Maybe piprob could help,if you know that the locals are friendly well thats cause there is not much work outside of the holiday trade, and I think that another factory was shut down last year in quillan,I drove through the town yesterday on my way back from the airport, nice place to do nowt in is what I would say because there is not a lot to do........sorry quilly.
  5. This thread has all the hallmarks of becoming a knock the new build,is a conspiracy against new build by immo`s?La vette posted that the gas tank was put in by a different company(not the fault of the house builders)and that the EDF could not connect the lec`ie,no fault of the house builders once again,as now all is right, new build is not such a bad way to go.
  6. I only ask because we did look at having a house built,we had an option of insurance, and also not like your experience but only paying 5% upfront and nothing more until the hand over of the keys on completion.
  7. It`s the word "option" that I find a problem to take in,may I ask if the contract was in french (and if not was an english traslation which are normally none binding)as you do not say if the contract to build the house(not the inside) was done on time.
  8. So true, but you missed the one about all the brits over here being friendly and will do other brits "favours"for nothing.
  9. Ah the dead parrot sketch, thats dead old.at least 30yrs anyway.More of a only fools and horse`s chap.
  10. Mods please note,if this is not "de riger"delete at will.Well I heard an interview on the radio 4 a while ago with a chap who worked in a zoo and one of his jobs were to collect sperm samples from monkeys (primates)and during the interview he said that the chimps would cuddle him after he took their sample, kind of touchy, true story though.
  11. Just thinking if you are not running back full could you not pack the goods(sorry do not know if they are chilled or frozen)in polystyrene boxes they should keep the goods ok until you get back to the UK,and then get the van fixed, although it seems you now have a week here to get the unit mended, becareful  and make sure that they have all the parts etc and that the van will be ready when you are ready to return to the UK.
  12. Now your talking, lambs kidneys lovely, fried in olive oil  garlic lardons (or any air dried ham)and a touch of creme frais just before the end.Veal liver floured and just shown the pan on each side, veal heart sliced fried quickly in olive oil, bulls heart roasted ummm, eat warm.Draw the line at pigs trotters, down here they mix snails with the trotters in a garlic tomato and chilli sauce, the sauce is great but snails and trotters no way!!!
  13. Is the van full, will you be ruuning back to uk full?
  14. It is very hard to get a true measure of logs when they are delivered, our neighbour told us a good way not 100% true but it is pretty near, cross the logs a bit like building a wall up to a metre high and and work the "wall" out ie 3steer is 3m by 1m etc, much easier with 50cm lenghts.
  15. We pay E58 per m2,that is when we have ordered the wood(more if not ordered),E32 per m2 is a good price,Then we can eat on the terrace at lunch time,in the sun with out a fire like today.
  16. Whats wrong with tripe, there is tripe in the northern style provence style and the best is tripe is in the catalan style, love it with a glass of red,dip your bread in the rich gravy(sauce to the posh members)and let the flavour and texture do their thing.
  17. Absolutely agree with that, that is why Mr Smith is so upset at being chasten by the forum rules, normally he gets his way by shouting and does not like anyone answering back.
  18. Sorry to ask this miki but who are your clients, and do they drive 4x4`s....Only joking.""""""""""""""""""
  19. So another vote for M Le Pen then,SB,that makes two of us here in France.
  20. Ron avery,if you want to carry on your reply to me may I reply to your last posting by pm,(that is with your consent and you being over 18 years of age because if you want to use four letter words in your posting I will reply with the same but think the forum should not be exposed to the four letter word you use)Please do let me know.
  21. Tresco,it is not just me that finds the forum up-dates fine,so give it a rest it is becoming very boring and making you look some what silly,in my opinion. So if you what to post about life in 17 then I would be content to take your mind off the delay as we nearly bought a house in the same dept as you.
  22. Yeah that time again Mrs O is topless on the terrace,22oC in the shade, beats up north eh Miki.
  23. We used a english "lawyer"when(waste of money) we bought are first house some years ago, mostly the lawyers are clerks working for a law firms and would not be able to represent anyone in France, you do get a translation but boy do you pay for it.t For the last two houses we bought we never went near an english "lawyer" as the notaires do the real work, no point paying twice.
