  1. Yes it is faster, but won't speed up your net connections unless it is above 11mbps which I suspect is unlikely, or if your wireless link is cogging down to compensate for a poor signal.   Simon
  2. I was told by a shop assistant in the other day that I needed the larger size because I am broad shouldered    Simon
  3. I would like to find something near us too, if anyone has info about yards in Nw Dordogne or South Charante please share. Simon
  4. "Sorry but I feel physically sick at this discussion. Pigs are beautiful creatures and deserve better than to be eaten. Pork tastes like human flesh - please stop and think..." Might I suggest that you don't open a thread called Gammon...   S
  5. I am always amused by the sulphates warning on US wines; there's more in orange juice! Simon
  6. Just to make a general point, it really is about time that this was handled at a European level, having different standards across the Union is frustrating for those moving from on country to another, and means that electricians have to retrain if they want to move. The other thing is that a rethink would allow for "best in class" solutions to be implemented. Simon
  7. It is under 500kg empty, and is an open, single axle affair.  It sounds like that is ok.   Simon
  8. I have a trailer that I keep in France for the usual purposes.  Having just re-registered the car down there (painless and not to expensive, contrary to my prior understanding), do I have to do the same for the trailer, or can I just stick the French number on the back?  It is an Ifor Williams with manufacturer's plate on the chassis; it will handle 1400kg when laden. S
  9. This is Malware, and often just having anti-virus software is not enough. Try running a complementary program like ad-aware (it's free from http://www.lavasoft.de) which will find and destroy spyware and malware. Simon
  10. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! All best left in UK. S
  11. LAST EDITED ON 28-Jul-04 AT 01:24 PM (BST) I use this http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0912818034/wwwlink-software-21/026-4844873-7260437 it's great and fits easily into a bag or coat pocket! Simon
  12. OK, Go here, http://www.lavasoft.de/ download and install ad-aware, run the updates and then use it to clean up your machine. You may also want to install the google toolbar http://toolbar.google.com/ to stop site popups popping up. While your at it, check your virus guard software, if it's a bit old and tired try this http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html Its free and updates in nice small chunks. Simon
  13. Having used every version of windows, on upteen pc configurations, as an IT manager, I have no hesitation in saying go to XP. It has an excellent user interface, is quick and stable, and makes using digital photos, the web, and multimedia easy. Don't try and fight the war by installing older ancilleries, and get as much memory available as you can. XP is much maligned, unfairly in my opinion, OK it is not perfect, but little in IT is, macs included. Simon
  14. Does anyone know if ISP's in France are likely to follow BT in the UK by trialing ADSL over distances up to 10km? Simon
  15. Toploaders are terrible, buy a modern machine. S
  16. Try ejecting the tray, and then blowing really hard into the drive, sometimes it just gets a bit dusty. Mind you replacements are very very cheap these days. S
  17. This is a good thing to have as without it you will run the risk of bad smells. I think it's worth venting all waste pipes including sinks, showers, washing machines e.t.c. as is the American system. This not only gives you a smell free environment, but a breathing system clears the waste water faster. Simon
