  1. I AM IN A NON PROFIT MAKING CLUB. Members sometimes do errants and we have for the last 4 years been paying 0.20euro/k.m. when they have used there own car as a re-imbursement. I am now responsible for this work and believe this figure should be increased and that is why I raised the question. travelling /month could be maybe 50k.m. for about 3-4 members of the committee. would the scales Clair sent be the fair ones to use and bearing in mind the decrease in diesel/petrol prices is there a table for 2009? thanks.
  2. Thanks Clair, but do you  or any other reader know what the engine size in cc relates to the  puissance e.g. is 3cv =300c.c. and 10cv=1000cc. for example? thanks
  3. What is a fair cost that you should pay someone using their own car /k.m.?? This  in UK is normally found from the AA. Is there a figure used in France for employees or anyone else.?? thanks. cost per small medium and large engine sizes would be usefull.

  6. The last 2 years I have noticed a lot of chestnut trees loosing leaves very  early and the following year not producing much new growth.Someone mentioned in UK that indeed there is a problem due to leaves being attacked by a moth and in France it is now a noticeble discease to be give to the marie. There is even a suspicion thatthe marie will arrange to have such trees cut down without charge. My how stories grow!unlike the chestnut tree. Can anyone advise ?

  11. what type of paint is fence protected with?? if an epoxy then i would expect the javel could be applied and left to dry so it can kill the mildew.   the stain left should then be washed with a scubbing brush and javel--use wife's yellow gloves or get her to do it---she is prbably like most women a good cleaner  ---------  unlike us fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1   then rinse off /wash with clean water
  12. Thanks. If water now filling tank surely there must be water in the pipe coming from the deep well  i.e. it must be primed still as the water cannot be pulled up otherwise????
  13. Unable to remove plug on top of moter as it has probably never been taken off in 30 years. Plan b -I opened connection from town water supply and put water back into tank. The pump runs and is drawing water when i use water through the hosepipe. However the pump is not switching off unless i switch electric off.111   THE  switch attached to tank is I believe an air switch . how do I adjust?? Thanks.
  14. Normally, if a product is cheaper it contains more of the cheaper ingredient such as white spirit and the product will not cover the same area as the dearer one. Then it can work out more expensive as you have to buy say 20-30% more . Always look on can for %solids as this is the part of the paint which stays on the article painted --the rest is solvent which is only used to enable you to apply the paint.and then evaporates into the air.
  15. Oil or synthetic alkyd paints will all yellow in time.Heat will accelerate the process. IF the chimney breast is stone or a plaster finish and does not get hot then an emulsion paint will be fine-no need to bring in from u.k. if the wall gets very hot then there is a possibility of the paint softening and attracting dust. If you have a metal surface that gets hot then you have a problem-non yellowing white finishes are specialist paints not normally available to the public and actual temperature of surface needs to be measured to get correct advice. from aretired paint chemist [;-)]
  16. ANYONE used First Rate FX who claim no charges for money transfers?? Thanks.
  17. LIVE IN 87 ,NEAR COUSSAC BONNEVAL. We now have mains supply and is it possible to add water to tank to assist re-starting? Do i colse all outlets i.e.tapsfrom tank before trying to prime and pressurise the water?
  18. I have a 3-phase moter which draws well water about 30 feet down. worked for years . We over used the well water perhaps on garden and no water coming through. The moter works. I have peered down well and see some water In the cave from the moter to the side of the tank is a small diameter plastic tube which I beieve you try and fill at the moter end so it primes pump-very difficult access as at back of moter against wall. I managed to get some wter into this but could see some air in tube. Does this have to be air free to work. What proceedure do i take to restart -i.e.do i open tap then close ?? The moter starts but do i need to run a long time to pump it as shaft is self lubricated by the water it pums up.?   I am assuming no debris in bottom of well has clogged the entry there but well is capped with hole to check thewater is down there. Or does the fixture on side of tank-(an air switch diaphram I think which stops pump when tank say 50% full.)- need maintenance.? any help appreciated--perhaps I need o wait for the rain to water garden and refill well. thanks.[8-)]
  19. I had a chestnut tree cut down which appeared to be dying in febuary. Will the wood be dry enough to use in my stove this year in october??
  20. I have rear tyre 18x8.50-8 which had a punture 2 years ago. last week I found it flat and tyre off the rim.-naturaly my small electric air compressor is not strong enough to blowit up. So I took it to a trye repair shop and showed them the repair spot they had plugged  before and ask ed for them to check tyre. They could not put tyre back onto the rim!!!shrugged and pointed to the shop where I bought the mower.they blew up the tyre and it went back onto the rim.   after another 2 weeks of work I found the tyre flat again.[8-)] Is it possible for the tyre not to sit on rim and allow air out and if so does that mean a new rim?? THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN A TYRE COME OFF THE RIM. THANKS.
  21. If wall was painted with an old fashioned distemper which is an oil based water paint then I can understand the advice as being o.k. and you need to use the same type of prduct as the new emulsion paints are much stronger and they will cause the old paint to bliser and peel off.!! To remove old distempers is very difficult and time consuming--i.e.washing off with water several imes. It is necessary to find out what the existing coating is based on-either a distemper or emulsion.[:)]
