  1. Hi there, I am going to go through the threshold of earnings allowed under the autoentrepeneur systema and am going to have to head into the grown up world of TVA etc As I will go through the barrier sometime in Q3 of this year can I change systems mid-year, preferably at the end of Q2 for ease (enabling me to start claiming expenses) or do I have to do it at year end - does anyone know or have experience ? I have consulted two french accountants, one says yes you can and one says no you can't....hurrah! All help gratefully received cheers
  2. cheers all - as a Tom Tom / GPS newbie does it matter if I get one that says France or Europe ? I was hoping not to spend more than about €190....in an ideal world
  3. I'm thinking of buying a Sat Nav as my new job involves driving around a lot to assorted small hameaus and villages. The "TomTom - GPS - New XL France" is the one I'm looking at (for no particular reason) What I would like to know, having never used a Sat Nav in france, is whether they can find the small hameaus dotted around the Limousin countryside, I'm sure villages and towns are no problem but what about the wee, tiny one cow hamlets ??
  4. Thanks Danny - my overall game plan was to do nothing until it seemed almost too late. Ernie, Fee free to call yourself a website designer -you may not have had the benefit of the ten years experience I had designing and implementing global web based applications for assorted investment banks - but like you say anyone can call themselves anything....perhaps I'll retrain as a plumber that sounds a little less ephemeral [:)]
  5. Morning all, recently registered as an autoentreneur and everything seems to be fine (although according to a recent leter my chosen profession, website designer, is apparently under dicussion at government level at to it's validity within the sytem [8-)]) I do keep getting letters from Reunica (as well as a startling number of other 'official' bodies)  imploring me to give them money for my "regimes de retraites, complementaire obligatoire" Ignoring the oxymorononic last two words is this something I need to sign up to, an optional additional or a sales pitch. All help as always gratefully received. [:D]
  6. My wife is pregnant and runs her own small business. she pays all the various social charges and cotisations but we can't find out anywhere whether she can claim maternity pay as she would be able to if she were employed by another company. This is especially important as the nature of her work means that she will physically have to stop at about eight months anyway - does anyone have any ideas ??
  7. Yes, it is a large buried gas tank in the garden. The weird thing is that I pumped the gas control knob up and down on one of the malfunctioning burners (whilst lit) for no apparent reason and it seems to have done the trick for that one - the other one remains buggered and I assume it is the mystical thermocouple to which people have referred. Is this an easy thing to change oneself or am I likely to blow the house up.
  8. Two of the burners on my whirlpool gas hob will light OK but when I release the pressure on the gas control button they go out....the other two work fine. does anyone have any ideas ??
  9. Thanks all....I'm deeply shocked that there is some administration involved [blink]
  10. there seems to be an abundance of info on doing it the other way round (as it were) but I have a small question. A relative who lives in the UK is staying with us for a few weeks and doing some work round the house for which I was thinking (operative word) of paying him. What, legally would be the position from a cotisation etc perspective, epsecially as a neighbour has already asked if he can do some work for her while he's here. He is happy to take my dosh but reluctant to work anywhere else due to a fear of both gendarmes and speaking french.....
  11. cheers for that - I didn't really expect flowers but do I need to put it in the barn over winter or should I leave it to the harsh Limousin winds
  12. I have managed to grow a small wisteria from seed this year - it is now about 8 inches tall in a pot on the window ledge. The leaves are now turning yellow but what I don't know is whether it is hardy enough to make it through the winter outside or should I put it in the bar / in the house / in the dark / post it to my mother in law in Durban......?? Any advice gratefully received chhers [:D]
  13. Thanks for that - the guide looks very interesting but there appear to only be 10 pages with some of the crucial info on other missing pages.... or am I missing something - Thanks for the pointer about ceiling plates and register (?) plates.....I shall investigate further...[8-)] My intention was to run the liner all the way to the top of the existing brick chimney and to put twin wall from the burner to the ceiling (about 2m 80cm) - any bendy bits were only going to be max five degrees and I was only planning to reduce the width from 180mm to about 150mm if I had to....is this still a no no ?? In an ideal world I would get a local artisan to come and do it but the earliest anyone can do it is November.....
  14. I am about to embark on installing a wood burner downstairs with the pipe running up the wall and then through the ceiling and the floor of the bedroom above straight into the old fireplace that was in that room and then up into the existing chimney and out into the world A couple of questions - The pipe coming out of the burner is 185mm and will therefore be that wide going theough the flooboards of the room above - how much clearance will it need from the wood surfaces and the plasterboard of the ceiling (if it's relevant the top of the burner to the floorboards above is about 2m 80cm) I don't think I can get 185mm pipe up into the old chimney - once it's through the floor and out of sight in the room above can I reduce the pipe diameter down with a reducing type piece of kit Is there such a thing as 'flexible' pipe in case I need to work round any slightly bendy bits Thanks very much in advance for your indulgence.....[:D][:)]
  15. so in essence it is impossible to run a small part time business......we don't have an accountant at the moment but I guess going down the SARL route might be an option in which case we will, I guess, certainly need one.
