1.
Hi Monica We did the handwritten will bit when we bought 4 years ago. it's quite simple, not expensive and reassuring. Fi
Hello Fi, I am just looking for the name of this will, do you remember?  And will we actually write it at the Notaires office or do we write it at home, if so where would we get the wording?

Cats and bird flu
By the way, a bell on a cat is not much good if the bird is dead...It is to stop the cats eating dead  (infected) birds that they have to be kept in!!! maureen.
Well, you are quite right it's the dead birds which are dangerous and a bell is of no use, but then on second thoughts would a cat eat something dead? Surely with a cat it's the thrill of the kill. My two cats were very fussy what they ate unlike our labrador who ate just anything the smellier the better!
3. Thank you so much Debra and for interpreting the article. It might be best to do one of these wills which one handwrites and gives to the Notaire to safe keep.
4. I hope it doesn't matter if I add my question to above thread? We are still unsure if we should do a CU. It is our first marriage and we have two adult sons. They would not be interested in the French property and I also think if either of us would be left alone we might want to sell (I could never drive on to the Ferry myself!!). I find it very difficult to work out. But perhaps somebody could help me: If the boys would inherit on the death of one parent and the property would be sold for lets say 150'000 Euros, how would it be devided? Perhaps we should just leave it as it is because it would be a good way to give the boys some money to start on the property ladder in England. Thank you in advance.
5. My sister in Switzerland (which now has also Bird flu and a dead cat at its border) just told me that they have been adviced to keep cats in or put a bell on!
6. Alnmike: We want to do a CU (but we have already purchased house) and we would be grateful if you could give us the name and address of your English Speaking French Solicitor. Thank you in advance.
7. Do you think it would be worth getting up a petition to ask Brittany Ferries to extend their cheap 24 hour-trip to 36 hours or even 48 hours. What difference does it make to them, if they let us stay for 36 hours? We would travel much more often to our house in France, eat on the Ferry and spend lots of cash in the duty free! Could you use your influence Will??
8. If you go to www.notaires.fr , click on "English" you can request a whole list of notaires, choosing the language required in your Dept.
9. Find AI quite interesting and agree with Catalpa, the For Sale section is useful, also the houses for sale. Was this thread a clever way to advertise it????
10. m....  received some *** why not shite, it's worse (and after all m..... was on the advertisment for all to see)??
11. About two years ago I saw a huge advert (one of these moving ones)  in Cherbourg which said (not sure about the spelling??): "Dis merde à la crotte!" It showed a women picking up a "burned croissant" in a "shovellike" thing. So obviously these adverts did no good at all!!
12. My appetite is whetted: how does one get on this Forum? I can get Anglo Info Normandy but can not see any link to any Forum.
13. This ban has been in Switzerland since autumn 2005 but most people get over it by netting over the chicken/duck/geese "outside space", so they still can be outside which I think is so much better than locked indoors.
14. What would a young couple in France be willing to pay, or could afford to pay  for a house they could live in straight away. I am interested because my son is buying a property together with his girlfriend here in England and they are going for one of these "key worker" plans, where they buy half of the house and for the other half they pay a rent, because it was impossible for them to buy outright although they are both on a teacher's salary (which I think is not that bad). They still have of course debts from their studies.
15. Thanks Harley: Brings back lots of old memories! I think spring will see great and fast progress! Keep writing!
16. We got the overpayment back about 6 months later, did not expect it and had not checked the invoices as we had agreed to a house price with all expenses included (notaire and estate agent).
17. I think you could be right about the handing over of parcels at the Glockenspiel-Pass!!! I have no theory but a consolation! I posted a parcel to my son in Ghana at the end of June. It cost £47.00. It arrived a week ago and he had to pay 8 Dollars to release it!! Excellent advice about smaller parcels, I will try that out Pat.
18. I want to have a further instalment of Harley's Blog! I know he is probably busy. But I look forward to it! Some questions: Have you lived in France a long time? Are you selling your old house, because I saw that you are looking for accommodation. It would be quite interesting if you could give us a bit of insight into your circumstances, family etc.  (perhaps not quite as much in detail as Carol Drinkwater in her Olive Farm trilogy!!!) I tried to write this post under the comments but I did not know how to....!!!!
19. The egg reminded me: As children we used to boast: "Listen, I can speak French". "Oeuf, Oeuf, que lac je la! La feuqui! It's a direct translation from German!
20. Thank you so much Val for your reply. You might have saved us a lot of problems in the future.
21.
And in this particular case because no first floor had ever been constructed, it was made clear that the full rate should be applied. If you are not sure or have the slightest doubt, get it in writing to protect yourself.
Val:  should I raise this with our builder? He is charging us on our whole renovation 5.5 % TVA. The house  which is being renovated and extended is more than 2 years old and has been lived in. But it was covered by a flat roof and has now a pitched roof, which is much higher than the former flat roof. In this roofspace will be 1 mezzanine and in the new extenstion one bedroom. So would the new bedroom and the mezzanine plus the new roof attract the higher TVA?  Thank you so much for your answer.
22. Yes I agree with Viva, that is the whole fun of this forum, "going off topic", somebody can always bring it back!!
23.
If you make the photo you want appear, then click on it, doesn't that work?
Thanks for your help, it gave me an idea, I clicked on the photo I wanted, then I sent it to a new document. And then I could choose it. This might have been a complicated way, but I think it worked, it said: the change might take 10 Min. to take effect.
24. Now we have got a proper roof I would like to change my "little photo", but I follow step by step as advised but it always comes back as "error". When I click browse I go into my documents, but there are several photos in that document, how can I choose which photograph I want? I think it comes back as error because I have no facility to choose which one and it can't load them all????!!!! Thanks
25. John and Don you go to the top of your class!! Ouch,  I thought it was "garçon"  and I think I have used it on Brittany Ferries in the Dining room!!!! (and they are pretty posh waiters). Another question, what do you call a police officer?
