1. I'm going to write a letter to Monsieur le Maire this afternoon, introducing myself and reassuring him that my intentions towards his village are honourable, before moving there in a few weeks.  Do you think he'll find this to be: a/ a nice touch, thereby getting our relationship off to a flying start, or b/ the work of a nutter?  [8-)]
  2.
I always wondered if anyone in the UK really talks like the actors on Eastenders.  When I first started watching it (yes, I admit it), I couldn't understand most of what they said.
When it was first broadcast, I couldn't understand why the Eastenders didn't all talk like Dick Van Dyck in Mary Poppins.  He was a proper cock-er-ney wasn't he? Right, I'm off to bluesky a letter to Monsieur Le Maire about colour schemes.
  3.
We have been considering FREE because of the free telephone calls offer. Do you keep the same home telephone number when you transfer to them?
Yes.
  4. Is there a brico outlet which is considered generally less expensive for paint than the others, or are they all much of a muchness? Thanks.[:)]
  5. Should really just wear speedos to add to the danger and excitement.  Could be one fifth of a 'Danger Pentathlon', along with 'Goading Welsh Women On Internet Fora'.  Others?  'Chris Head Shouty Tennis'?
  6.
Yes, there are worse books - beware the Olive Route - Ms Drinkwaters latest tome !
Oh crikey I read one of her 'Olive' books once (I may even have bought it myself [:'(]) and it was the worst book ever written (not just the worst I've ever read, the worst ever written).  Don't give Waterstones your £7.99, give it to the man with the dog sitting outside.  Carol, if you're reading this, love, give it up.  You were passably adequate in All Creatures Great And Small, but you're no author.
  7.

I don't Lou, but my girl does, and if she can't make something out of that she needs shooting, frankly. (only joking Squidge if you read this later
Mark if squidge reads this i'd be more concerned about the fact you told everyone her pet name not the  joke about painting!!! Has she painted it? Can you swipe it to scan and shows us all???
Lou, if you'd actually read my blog you'd know that 'Squidge' is already lingua franca  [;-)]  Her easel has yet to set foot (feet?) in the Ariege, but as soon as it does her work will be available from all good local markets via me!  Hope this doesn't count as marketing; it's all so cackhanded that it'll surely be allowed.....? Christine, the view out of the back door is rubbish, but here's a couple more, one from above the back garden (kind of Coronation Street with altitude), and a general one from the village.  I'm already getting very proprietorial about it all - I hope to be mayor within 5 years. 8.
I used to find racing up to the net at the same time emitting a piercing war cry was enough to win a few points!
That's just not cricket, Chris.
  9.

Blimey Mark that is beautiful! Do you paint??? I bet it is lovely in every season. I am very jealous. [:)]
I don't Lou, but my girl does, and if she can't make something out of that she needs shooting, frankly. (only joking Squidge if you read this later) [:)][:)][:)]
Er - you mean you share your computer with your OH?  Isn't that dangerous?  [blink]  Why do you think I'm never off it except in power cuts?
I rely on the fact that she'll never see through my cunning pseudonym. Hardly surprising that you have to keep Jude's prying eyes away from the forum, the way you flirt with that Dick Smith.....

  11. Right.........here we go again then eeeek..........
  12. Erm, has anything actually come out?  Mine's just a white screen!!  I know it gets snowy in the mountains but I think the white is down to incompetence rather than meteorology.  How do you do pictures???? [:'(] [8-)]
  13. This is the view from the front door of our new house....! [8-|]
  14. Is it possible/legal to register a new business with the CdeC/CdeM using the address of a house you haven't yet moved into, but will do in a couple of months?  It would be good to get a lot of the bureaucratic bits out of the way so that I can use my time more efficiently when I move in by actually grafting rather than form filling, but I suspect this particular notion is a bit dodgy isn't it? Thanks. [:)]
  15.
we always just reply that we only accept payment by direct transfer into our UK acc or by a sterling cheque in the post.  We have never had anyone not book as a result of this approach.
Just out of intereste Jhc, do you also accept cheques in Euros, or do you just have an English bank account?  Not being nosey, I'm in the process of setting up payment options for my own B&B, just wondered why you seemingly only deal in sterling [:)]

it's what they sing when they get excited at the egg chasing....
  17.
Happens to me all the time. It's called having a "CRAFT" moment... ("Can't Remember A Thing")
Hang on, that doesn't...... ah.

    Cost of living
Perhaps I'm the only drinker posting but the lower cost of wine must surely come into this. Unless you spend the same amount as you did in the UK but drink vastly more!
I spend less than 10 euros a week on booze and I'm completely plastered every night - it's wonderful.  I'd be dead in five years if I earned 9,500. [;-)]
  19. They've been tasked by Mother Nature with carrying out research on big nasty dogs this autumn - sleeping will have to wait. [;-)]
  20.
Yes, on Listen Again here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio4_aod.shtml?radio4/clue
Ah well, that's scuppered any efforts at improving my French via 'France Culture' then.  Tuned in immediately.  Is there a version via that link which translates Humph into French?
  21. Ah, now you say that Dick, but it just so happens that a little bit of empirical proof of life after death has been pushed my way recently.  Send your bank details to me at 'mark @ nigerianscam.co.ng' and I will send it to you on a carte postale. [Www]
