Hey, thanks guys, I can see that you've been searching while I've been away! "Poincon" (with the cedilla under the 'c') seems to be correct, "die stamp" was what I was looking for in English. Sometimes I feel caught in a time warp, can't find the French word and can't remember the English word either!!! [8-)] Thanks for the UK links, it looks as if I'll have to order from there because I can't find anything by mail order over here... the Franch don't seem to be into internet trading properly yet. On checking my chassis number I'll get away with just a numeric set, so the postage shouldn't be too bad. Thanks again guys Sid
I would check that again, even if your chassis No. doesn't have any letters which I doubt, i think that most caravan chassis numbers are 17 digits long, a mix of letters and numbers, unless your caravan is very old. Also you would need to stamp, Type: No. de serie: PTAC and KG I suggest it would be better to make up a plate with all the requirements on it and attach that to the chassis in a easily accessible position mine is in the front locker on the chassis

When the Inspector visits he does ask if you have any receipt's for any previous tank emptying but it makes no difference either way, after the inspection, the four yearly emptying cycle should start then and it must be by a licenced company, who can dispose of the waste in an authorised place. However, friends of ours had their inspection last week it didn't comply with the current regs. as the grey water goes straight into the ditch, he told them, that it could take him 6 - 8 years to get back to do another inspection to see if they have done the remedial work, and that there were still plenty of homes that he had visited with raw sewage going into the ditch.[Www]

If the damage was serious and it occurred in France the Gendarmes can confiscate the Carte Grise until the repair and a certified inspection are carried out, then you have to re-apply at the prefecture for the return of the Carte Grise. It may be possible to forget the French registration apply for registration in the UK then go through the routine of certificate of conformity etc. to re-register it in France it may cost, UK Mot & road tax then a certificate of conformity for France, french control technique and registry cost. Even then it may be on a computer somewhere, as a write off under the chassis number.

It may help other posters, to tell them the french name for the cam belt that was on the facture.[:)]

We had a fosse inspection recently and although a couple of points were noted we received the COC a few weeks later, the next inspection may be in four years time, "Normalement" and the fosse should be emptied every four years that's about it. You should for your own benifit empty the bac a graisse Carry on as normal.

You could argue that you have just purchased it, or imported it and intend to go through the registration process ASAP

What you need to carry whilst driving in France?

The only thing I would add is that having a spare bulb kit in the car could save you some money, if you get stopped with a bulb failure and you can replace it straight away the Flics will be ok with that. -
I am sure you now know after paying the bill, that it is as previous poster said, 'Courroie de Distribution' for the cam belt.

I sowed some in a very shaded spot some years ago it grew quite well to start with, but nothing surviving today, and as you know it's not cheap.

Our Maires response to it was that, "when the rest of France complies with the Regs then so will we", the chickens still roam free here in our bit of 47 although, it looks like the commercial breeders are keeping theirs inside.

In my opinion, Citroen in the last decade have outshone Renault on their diesel engines and general reliability, that is based on years in the trade working on these vehicles, however the Xantia is getting on a bit now, I would try and find a younger model 406 diesel.

"Roughly translate it as 'You are as useful as the fifth wheel on the wheelbarrow' I don't think it is an actual french expression for uselessness but have you ever seen a wheelbarrow with 5 wheels?... " No, but I have not seen many wheelbarrows with four wheels either.[:D]

Any trailer over 500kg PTAC has to have it's own Carte Grise and any trailer over 750kg PTAC has to have its own insurance policy in France.

You can either complete all the forms on-line or download the missing forms from the French Tax website, you don't have to complete 3916 every year, if you have notified your UK accounts already then that's it.

As Ron said, you certainly won't have any French Income tax to pay this year but: if you have to make a tax declaration and it is a legal obligation to declare all income from what ever source, including interest payments, then you will be liable for Contributions Sociales (CSG), even on a small amount of revenue you will have to pay a Tax of around 11.5%, they may of course not bother this year but they will collect it from now on.

AFAIK you can construct a wooden building up to 20 sq meters without going for planning permission, but you will still need a "permis de Travaux" from the Marie to comply with the regs.

I don't see why anyone would want to buy an NRJ sim card on Ebay; if you can buy it direct for €15, then get €6 credit back to use for calls when you enable the sim, then when you register you get 50 free SMS, plus if you top up €20 you get another €4 credited to your phone, how much did you pay? -
"Parsnip and swedes.....i showed them the packets as I didn`t have the french name for sweed on my tongue," Parsnips are called Panais (de Guernsey) and swedes are Rutabga
