  1. Have either of you had the time to look at the services offered by AS24? I have received the literature today, and it all looks very interesting.Having said that I am having very few problems with Teleconnect at the moment. Do I tempt fate?
  2. The basic problem is that as part of the computerised account openeing procedures at British Banks,a check is made against the electoral roll, and also at credit reference agencies. The first is self expnatory, the second enables the bank to assess what kind of card they can issue and provide a guide to any overdraft or loan request. Until recent legislation it was almost impossible for many UK residents to open a Bank account, because they failed the second test. Now everyone can open a simple account with only a solo card and are ineligible for any kind of overdraft/loan. I wouldimagine it to be almost impossible to carry out the same kind of checks for overseas residents.
  3. Mainly because my pump is not working I have not used the pump since I moved here 3 years ago.Whilst for common sense reasons I agree with Clair,I just have this nagging feeling that it would be hard to convince the authorities that you were only using it for watering the flowers. Are they going to inspect all the private wells in France?
  4. I have just re-read a mssive from the local mairie regarding the declaration of new wells and also for existing ones, used to obtain eater for domestic usage.I have until now been of the opinion that if you only use the water for gardening purposes there is no need for such a declaration, but now I am not sure. Has anyone investigated?
  5. You may well be right. I just know the quality is guaranteed,it's so simple, not at all messy,no smell and apart from boiling a kettle it uses no electricity
  6. I order from QVC UK 10 sachets of Greek Yogurt at £17.50 postage £7.69 Total £25.19. Lakeland £19,58 postage £10 Total £29.58. However I did try to order a fruit yogurt mix but the postage was £14 +.(probably heavire packets) From memory I think it is best if you open an account. From your details they then quote posrge to France. If you are not happy you are able to cancel your order.Of course with Lakeland if you are ordering several items then postage could work out less. It's all a matter of playing with figures. If I can help any furthet please let me know.
  7. I feel I am missing something here. If you are using the Easi Yo powder why do you need an electric yogurt maker? Powder, water, good shake into the Easi Yo maker with hot water , 8 hours, into the Fridge to chill and bobs your uncle.Does the electric version give better consistency?
  8. Weuse the Easy YO system and find the postage from QVC usually better than Lakeland. The Greek yogurt is really great.- better than the runny muck you get in the supermarkets! Esay YO are a NZ company, and I understand it is a best seller there. The priduct is available in France, off the internet, but very expensive.
  9. Do many provide Internet access.I have always shied away and in reality have seldom been asked for it.If someone wanted to bring their laptop for example would they be able to purchase a card, dongle? or a short term contract?
  10. This will be the same Mervyn King who in his August Inflation report 2 years ago, and amidst many people warning of the dangers of the build up of credit stating that"securitisation had made the banking system safer and more resiiant since it took financial risk off the Bank's balance sheets.He/The Bank saw no possibility of a recession in 2009!
  11. I have not bought clothes from USA, but have bought,DVD's,CD's books etc with absolutely no problem, and never been asked to pay any taxes. Not tried it myself, but I have read on one of the forums that if you ask the supplier to mark the packet "gift "then tax is not payable.
  12. The front page of the Express this morning has the headline that the UK recession is over-this according to financial experts at Goldmann Sachs
  13. According to the Express supporting front page this morning The IK recession is over-according to experts at Glodmann Sachs.
  14. I dont't think France and Germany were/are the main problem.Spain is virtually bankrupt,Problems also with the balkan states in particular Latvia and Bulgaria,2 nations which had their currency pegged to the euro with very negative results as GDP is dropping sharply with unemployment and fiscal deficits rising,The worry is this could spill over into Greece and Hungary, and this could cause downward pressure on the euro.
  15. Interesting point-you say staying in a Brit owned gite was not worth the premium. Does this mean that in general Brits charge more than the French for example? or because the French bring their own sheets, cleaning materials etc?
  16. Carrefour at angoulins were last week selling off short dated ginger nuts and dark chocolate McVities digestives at 50 centimes a packet.
  17. I would imagine they are the same people who attacked our MP's for their expenses claims!
  18. Some very interesting offers at Intermarche at the moment.
  19. I can't beleive how slow some companies have been/are to realise the potential business there is from expats overseas. It has taken the recession for some to wake up.
  20. Why did I fall into the trap of downlaoding IE8-must have been asleep at the wheel!.Thank God I have Google Chromw installed.
  21. Very many thanks for that-without going any further I think I need an electrician!
  22. I have a Casto water heater which I have not usedin the 3 years I have owned my house,I now need to use it but see that there is a plug of 2" diameter with 2 large round pins and a Uk type square shape on the top, but horizoantal rather then vertical. make Legrand 20a 400 v. Is it safe to replace with a French plug or is there some other kind of socket I am missing?
