  1. We have been asked whether we can do linguistique courses for children.  We are English and have a good sense of the French language.  We have twin girls of 15 so it would be fun to fit it in the holidays just having one or two French girls at a time to improve/learn English.   However we would like to know what are the legal implications of having someone elses children stay in ones home.
  2. Hi, We live in Creysse where it is being built.  They are supposed to finish by the end of May.  However this is France.  I miss the old Champion that has closed now.  There is a new food shop to be opened in place of the Champion?  What will happen to Sport 2000?
  3. Hello, Has anyone any experience of the following: My husband is of retirement age and takes a pension although he still has work contacts in the UK. We have set up a equestrian farm and have installed with the MSA. We have to pay 3K euros every year for cotisations which I beleive are the minimum. We do not make any money yet. In England I paid no social contributions as I was on a low income and was told that I would be covered by my husbands contributions. Would this follow in France or should I carry on paying the contributions?
  4. Another appropriate forum is equineonline.net which has a section for France.  Good luck.

  7. Hi, It's a shame you're not near Bergerac in 24.  We have a small set up and offer one to one lessons or semi private and/or hacking.  I am qualified in England with the British Horse Society and fully registered and insured here.  We have a good selection of horses and also a gite and a swimming pool for visiter.  Try your pages jeune  for local 'poney clubs' which are the same as the British equivalent of Riding School.  Look for horses that look well fed and alert and a good atmosphere. It is usual for all the clients to be working toward a 'galop' which go 1 - 8. But they're not obligatory.  It's an excellent way to improve your French. Good luck Louise  www.visitfrance.co.uk/grandjean

  9. We have been in France for two years.  This year we asked our insurance company if we could change our policy to cover our successful riding holidays and bits and pieces on the farm.  They happily came and looked and said they would change the policy.  We haven't received any paper work or billing after five months.  We have phoned and been into the office and they keep assuring us that we are covered but they are busy at the moment.  This is all very well but we worry about the what ifs.  What does anyone advise we do? Thanks Louise

Hi, We have a very good lady called Jane who comes and stays in our house and does all the necessary.  We now have 9 horses, countless chickens, a dog, a cat, hamster and 2 guinea pigs and she has been here twice and coped admirably.  If you're interested please let me know and I'll forward her details.  We are in Bergerac and she is happy to travel some distance. Regards Louise

  12. Hi, I believe that with the licence you have the extra cover in the case of someone sueing you and saying it was your fault and not the horses'.  If you compete you need your licence and there are three sorts depending on what level you compete at.  Bonne courage Louise Bowles

  18. Hi, We are in Creysse near Bergerac and use Phillippe Porte Tel 05 53 23 40 10 .  He speaks quite good English.  His receptionists do not however and he has partners who only speak a little English.  Good luck. Louise Bowles
  19. Hi,  I think the licence is for riding out and covers you for third party insurance if someone finds the rider, not the horse responsible for an accident.  So you won't be needing it.  Our cotisation for MSA health insurance was 165 euros for a family of 4.   I have nothing else to compare it with and would be interested in other comparisons. Regards Louise Bowles
  20. Hi,  We're been here a year and a bit near Bergerac and have just about got the paper work sorted!  We regirstered our business with La Chambre d'Agriculture and there were various categories including breeding/elevage of horses.  I think if you're under a certain age you need to do certain qualifications in France.  They accepted my British Horse Society exams.  Perhaps it is because I have an international passport which translated my qualifications to French.  Once registered with the Chambre d'Agriculture they will ask you how you want to be insured for health.  We chose MSA only because the previous owner was with them.  All riders should have a licence with FFE Federation Francais Equitation which all FFE Poney Clubs etc. can supply.  Horses are insured differently.  Third party can be supplied with your household.  Other insurance can be given as long as your horses are registered with the National stud at Pompadour (SIRE) and GREVE - a register like Farmkey.  I may not have all these details correct but hope that they help you in the right direction.  I nearly bought a British Section B mare but found out that to breed it here with French papers it would need re-registering with the French Welsh Society - so all possible with time and patience!. Regards Louise Bowles
