1. Thank you everyone. I did try to get just the lenses replaced in the existing frames which are fine but they wanted €250 each lens. So I politely left the shop. My prescription is fine but themlenses are badly scratched, my fault.
2. I usually get my replacement specs made up in UK. Bit difficult for the moment, plus a bridge is shut. Has anyone tried one of those internet companies, svp? Problems? Thanks guys.
3. The government has accepted a proposal by the HAS that pharmacies should be able to give ALL types of vaccines approved so far. About bl**dy time too. This might make things go much quicker but it might increase the queues at the pharmacy
4. Surely, joints are best to dry out naturally. If they caught fire in the microwave the whole house/ block/ street would float away. Never thought of you as a joint girl, doudoune!??
5. Will be after one tomorrow with my doc. Nurses and pharmacies can also give it.
6. Astrazeneca now authorised for over 65s with comorbidities.
7. Check French news tomorrow re the Astrazeneca vaccine: https://www.lefigaro.fr/sciences/covid-19-la-haute-autorite-de-sante-se-prononcera-mardi-sur-le-vaccin-astrazeneca-pour-les-plus-de-65-ans-20210301
8. Well, really warm today; am cutting long hedges so had to come in a strip of a couple of layers. Lovely, lovely.
9. The girl was first going to go to the gendarmes then wanted to be put in a foyer d’acceuil. Dont think they can force her to return home.
10. Maybe others’ might have a view. This happened last night. About 0100hrs I was quietly watching TV, dog asleep on sofa. Knock on the door. Turn on outside light to reveal small teenage type female person. Open top half of door, cautiously, all sorts of thoughts running through head. ‘Can I please make a phone call, I have run away from home because my parents beat me’ Hesitation for a second then let her in, heavy torch close to hand. Gave her phone, she phones her boyfriend to come and get her. He lives apparently 20 minutes away. Story emerges: she is 17, dating a guy of 31, parents object, rows, violence apparently, she has the marks, wants to go to the gendarme. Was locked in her bedroom, no phone. Escaped when parents were asleep. My house light was the only one on in the village, apparently. So, we walk down to the village square, she is clearly distraught, and wait for boyfriend. She apparently is at a special school because she ‘sees’ people, not monsters or ghosts but people! Boyfriend is a driver who lost his job because he is dating her. Boyfriend arrives in a hurry. Me returns coldly to my sofa, not the dog’s who is very anxious because I went out without him, so I gave him a treat. Did I do right?
11. Astra Zeneca should be available now. Definitely appointments being made when I was at the docs. this week, but at say four jabs an hour.... f****** hopeless.
12. Nimt, weren’t you pretty thin anyway. Dont go out in a strong breeze or we shall have to send out search parties!
13. Thank you, Ken, quite right. Sugar is right out for me anyway. My plan is to go low so that I have what I call my restaurant buffer which will enable me to eat well, richly and fully from time to time. I actually calculate by the ‘holes on the belt’ method and the smaller pairs of trousers one!?
14. is that I am losing a ton of weight. About 7kg down so far and still going, target 20 kg! The secret is porridge, pure and simple, made with half fat milk and no additives. One good bowl at first meal time lasts most of the day. One can make up a big batch at a time, it is cheap, an easy snack and the doctor thoroughly approves. But, do not add anything except maybe a small amount of fruit, preferably apple.
15. Side effects include ladies growing beards, men’s privates shrinking, backsides getting bigger, the Oxford vaccine making people speak English, grannies running marathons backwards, Islam being denied by its adherents, Arab ladies tearing off their veils........ so much happening and one honest result Trump telling the truth!
16. Of course we care what happens in France, albf, but there are also things in other countries that interest me such as the US, Scotland, Belgium ( when I can understand it!), HK, Libya..... My interests in France are both local and national about which I read in both English and French. But it does take a lot of time which is why I seldom hit the garden before 1400hrs.
17.
You could be right. I do recall reading something along those lines. But, what does that really mean? To me, that they have little to no vaccines in hand. And, the promises of future deliveries seem to get delayed and delayed and delayed. This problem they spoke of at the plant in Belgium. Is that the ONLY place we can get vaccines from? And I thought there was going to be some sort of investigation into what the manufacturing delay/problem at that plant actually was. Maybe I have missed it, but I haven't heard a word to answer that question.
Delays could be caused by any number of factors: the batches werent good, electricity cuts, no bottles, strikes, difficulty moving vaccine from one plant to another, upgrading to produce more...... the list goes on.
18. Well, with the Dunkerque outbreak I reckon they toon the vaccines from all the other places in the area and beyond.
19. Bottling, boxing and distributing I think, Lori, rather than the full McCoy.
20. Norman, well done, but was it because you are at risk or a risk?
21. The vaccine manufacturers have licensed at least four French factories to produce the stuff. The results should begin to come through imminently, one hopes!
22. By the way, Biden is trying for 100,000,000 jabs in 100 days!
23. Yes, from what I have read the folk who have had side effects also had quite a load of anti-bodies to start with. A natural reaction then. Oiseau who is stuck in London has a huge circle of friends of whom only three seem to have had any noticeable reaction. Not really a problem unless it seriously puts people off. Much of it is hysteria.
