1. Have you tried good old masking tape you can cut it to the size of your choice, write on it before putting stuff in the freezer. But I don't know how good the glue would be for freezer use.
2. What are those 3 slices of bread mean shown  on Loiseua's post? I have seen it a few times.
3. We took our old hover mower over to France when we first brought the place, it wasn't one of those little ones but a good heavy duty one. Think it lasted a couple of years before the motor burnt out trying to get through the grass. We brought a sit on mower and never looked back. Even the hover mower was hard work against sitting and taking it easy on a ride on. Mind you the sit on sometimes has a hard time getting through the first cut of the year when the grass can be nearly 2 feet high, and it has a 39" cutting deck.
4. Bit of an update on this, Paypal (USA) have changed their terms and conditions, the new condition is they can cold call you/text you on any number you have listed with them, you can't opt out if you don't agree the account will be closed. This only applies in the USA at the mo but you can guarantee it will come here. So I have given my phone number on Paypal as theirs as per Dept71. The link below refers to it. http://www.forbes.com/sites/ianmorris/2015/06/04/paypal-says-let-us-cold-call-you-send-you-texts-or-you-must-close-your-account/
5. I think it is more of an attitude problem, you have the French government always going on about English speak creeping in to their language. Yes the other countries don't have such a hang-up about speaking in English however poorly, just like my French!! And they hate the capitalist English. Bet they were ruggered that American guys stopped the carnage a few days ago on the train, and lets not forget about the Tour de France spitting episodes.
6. I would have thought the firm supplying the tank would be the ones to ask, I think they have to sign it off as safe anyway.
7. Give the guy a break he has been doing his GCSE homework
8. I would be interested as well as our French neighbour has satellite broadband and is not in the least impressed with it.
9. If you are worried about this the best thing to do is cut the item in two so it all goes into the vehicle with both doors closed. As you have seen builders with stuff sticking out of rear doors do as they do, plus tie a bit of rag at the end of the item, might also stop the car behind being up your backside. Someone is bound to say its a no-no.
10. If the fuel filter has never been changed I would look at this first, (as Dave said the cost of a new pump would outway the cost of the car) I think your "bulb" would be on the left of the engine looking at it from the front (drivers side UK car) in the middle of the engine just in front of the intercooler rad that lays on top of the engine, if fitted you will see a round plastic tub with a squarish lid with 4  bolts this is the filter, depends on the design either you can but a new filter to go inside the tub or you will have to buy a new unit. Which ever way it goes cleanliness is the most important thing around the filter when you replace it. Also drain the old diesel out of the filter as it may contain some water. I disposed of my workshop manuals for this engine years ago, going on memory now. Used to have a xantia with the same engine. Good luck.
11. If you have to prime it with the bulb under the bonnet, you more then likely have air in the fuel line, Has the fuel filter just been changed, or any work done in that area. Can't see how "pumping the accelerator" would do anything. Is the engine the old 1.9td or is it the newer HDI type. Change tack a bit, a friend of ours had the engine management light come on on his Saab, he took it to the local French garage and was told he would need a new turbo. I had a look under the bonnet and found a loose vacuum pipe, re-attached the hose and the light went out never to return. Have  a look at the fuel line around the fuel filter, plus the actual filter, they can sometimes absorb air into the filter if its an old one. Also get a second opinion from somewhere else if needed.
12.
Cost me nowt - no mention of money at any moment and if they try to bill me later they can sing for it.
They tagged the cost of our inspection onto our next water bill.
13. Wonder how long it will be until an old trawler will be winging its way across the channel loaded with people!!
14. Does France have a catchup tv service like Iplayer? never heard of it.
15. Must admit I have them all in a folder as well, stored well away from the computer. Would never remember all the different ones you have to do nowadays, what with all the odd charactors, capitals etc. Did once try Lastpass somehow couldn't get on with it.
16. We had once a letter from Credit Agricole asking us to prove our identity, the next time we were in France we went to our local branch and asked, what is this all about. They said if they could have a copy of our passport they would put it on file and that would be that. The next year  we had the same letter from Credit Agricole asking for the same thing again, all we did was replied that we haven't changed our identity since last year. They thanked us for the reply and that's the last we heard from them.
17. A couple of years ago whilst at our holiday place we decided to get a new fridge, went on t'internet and found a French online shop, ordered the thing and went to the payment page, entered our UK credit card details, it rejected it, then phoned up the firm and spoke to a human, explained the problem and they entered the credit card number under the order number we gave them, again the card was rejected. The lady from the firm explained that it seems their system rejected our card because it was a foreign one. Talked to some French friends about this so they offered to pay for it from their account and we then gave them cash for the fridge after taking it from the bank. Sorted in the end but a bit of a hassle. By the way we had plenty of credit on the card.
18. Thanks for the input re the 1 tonne bags, will have a look when we come out of the outback. Think nearest Leroy is dijon area, bit too far just to buy a bag, wine and mustard we can get locally. cheers
19. We have just purchased 500 kilo's of the stuff  loose from a sablier we took a bit of UK soft sand to show them what we wanted, we ended up with sand of the grade 0/1mm which is near as dam it to Uk soft sand. We looked at 0/2mm in the Brico,s but it seemed a bit too gritty for me. Next problem is to try and find anywhere in France that sell those 1 tonne bags to store the sand in, any suggestions appreciated.
20. I would speak again to the English help line. When we applied to have a line I telephoned the English help line from the Uk and did it all over the phone, we were asked what day we would like it installed, we had the line to the house but nothing else, it had not been used for over 20 years. On the day chosen they arrived (when we were in France) and got the line up and running. We then had to sign the contract the engineer had with him. We are on the residence secondaire tariff and it was all done with no problems. The only thing we have done is take the calls part of the contract away from orange to phonexpat. Dont try a plough through their website you will grow old before you find the answer.
21. Not looking good for the tunnel though, it looks borderline in France. Might get your feet wet on stormy days
22. We have problems like that Betty, when we got the phone installed I took up the offer of an internet account and a Orange.fr e.mail address just in case we needed to look at anything whilst in France. We are miles from the exchange so we could only get dial up.  I entered the Orange account details into Outlook express on the computer in the UK then I started to receive e-mails all in French from various firms, it didn't take a genius to work out who supplied my Orange'fr e-mail address to these firms, as Betty knows. I have never sent any emails from that account.  I used to just delete them, but then we went to France for a couple of months, upon returning to the UK and opening outlook express about 250 e-mails started to download. What to do.... I could stop them being downloaded from the server, but doing this I thought it may cause me problems in the future as if it looks as if the account is dormant Orange may delete my account stopping me to access the internet if I needed it. So what happens now is all the e-mails I receive via the Orange.fr account is forwarded automatically to [email protected] They are annoying me by selling my details so I think its fair to annoy them. I don't think this will help Betty as it seems her problem is on her main account. No firms have my main UK email address only selected friends and family. I use Yahoo mail for any outside correspondences with their disposable e-mail addresses. It works for me.
23. Gyn_paul Agree with you about the audio problems, just tonight I was looking forward to a new BBC  drama "By Any Means" managed to watch about 20 mins of it before giving up. The constant drumming beat and bass background music! in the end I just gave up.
24. Thanks for the reply Chancer. I think it goes back to the water board reducing the pressure a while back to stop the pipes leaking in the road, but it has reduced the pressure for us I think it has been reduced too much. We are at the end of the line for water (and telephone but that's another problem) Our old neighbour seems to accept this but we are now trying to sort this out. There is also a young couple who have just renovated and old property and have just started living full time there and they say they have had instances where no water comes out of the tap. What is so annoying, there is a water tower about 50ft from our house that was used until they decided to bypass. Was hoping for a link or something to their code so we can make a joint approach to the water company ( my written French is not up to reading all the terms and conditions etc.) Would the static pressure at the delivery point not be the water pressure? Thanks again
