  1. Thanks for the helpful replies! Does a UK MOT certificate count as the same document as a controle technique? I think I know the answer but thought I would ask. Also, we are using our no claims bonus on our UK car so will not have one to use on the car in France. If you were in the same position, did this cause any issues - apart from not getting a discount?
  2. We have been looking for a small car (mini) that we can leave at our house in France so that there is no need to hire one when we fly. We've noted that a certificate of conformity is needed, plus different headlights before registering the car in France. Can anyone advise on the insurance in France for a right-hand drive car - is it more expensive than LHD? Which French insurance websites offer a good selection and price? Any advice appreciated. Many thanks
  3. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the regulations in France regarding the location of an external gas tank which is buried. I would like to find out how far should this be from a house. Many thanks
  4. I have searched Google and various forum directories for companies that install both satellite broadband and tv services for our house just south of Avignon. The result seems to be that companies specialise in either one or the other service and rarely both. Does anyone have any suggestions for locating this type of company? Many thanks
  5. Thanks to all for the shared experiences and suggestions on this topic,
  6. We own a detached village house in France and our end gable wall adjoins a gravel car parking area which belongs to the house next door. We noticed that our neighbour had put down a concrete plinth which touched our side wall. The house is occupied by tenants and so we wrote to the owner to request that nothing permanent is erected against our wall which would prevent us from maintaining it. The owner who is a land surveyor and court expert (retired) responded at length and in essence said that the law allowed him to build either 3 metres from our wall or to build against our wall. He asked for permission to join lead flashing to our wall. We went to see the Mayor who was courteous and took time to discuss our concerns however he said that the surveyor was correct and informed us that we would be able to make our objections known when a Permis de Construire was applied for. The Permis has now been applied for and we will make a visit to view the plans for this erection which at present is described as a cloture – which is an enclosure or fenced area. In all of this it seems unfair that we bought a detached house and a few years later someone is allowed to make our house semi-detached. We plan to ask a local estate agent to advise us how much this will affect the price. This seems to be a “done deal” and we wondered whether any forum members have encountered anything similar and have any advice to offer? Many thanks
  7. Can anyone advise how you could make the equivalent of a Land Registry search in France in order to find properties and their owners? Also does anyone know if  there are French sites equivalent to Zoopla dealing with French property? Any feedback gratefully received, thanks
  8. Thanks John, that looks impressive. Its clearly lots of work and best done in the summer months although the end result looks well worthwhile.
  9. We are considering creating a Tropezian Terrace - where you take part of the roof off to create the terrace. Does anyone have experiences of creating such a terrace and any hints and tips for building one? Links to websites or photos would be appreciated. Its an old Provence house with thick walls.
  10. Thanks for asking - this is something different.  Click clack is a push button basin waste.
  11. Can anyone advise the French name for the click clack type of basin wastes ?  We saw them in Leroy Merlin while in France and are now struggling to find them on the web.  We're not sure what name to search on.  Any advice appreciated, thanks
  12. Could someone advise or point me at a website which details the necessary process and forms to be completed in order to get married in France please?
