  2. Stop making me really envious I miss fish and chips terribly and also miss the north east , we have been in the limousin for 2.1/2 years and although we have very nice hot summers I find the winters colder than home, which was Sunderland and yes we had a caravan at whitley bay holiday park, but its now in the Vendee. the thing here we find back home you could go shopping in exciting places like the Metro centre or Newcastle on cold wet days here you take one look out of the window and stay in cos you car't be bothered to drive for 1/2 hr to cora! Dont get me wrong I love Living in France but miss certain things about home!

  5. hi there Miki,  Ill try and answer some of your questions,  yes we are open all year,  We have been okay not great over the past couple of months with about 8 bookings in November and 5 in Oct we have 3 so far this month and a couple for xmas and new year,  We have to heat the house for us so its no problem where heating is concerned Advance bookings are low but I don't take that into account at all as most of our bookings are a month or less in advance usually <2 weeks, it doesn't bother us been open all year as we are not busy in the winter and still get a break although loads of maintence jobs to do ( Id rather have guests)  and no were not packing it in!  hope you have a good season next year  seasons greetings from the limousin!

  13. well our family for one will be travelling to your resturant now and again to sample your olde english fayre, do you have a b and b near you  cos we like to stay the night on our travels  and like to sample resturants within walking didtances of bandbs cheers
  14. I totally agree with Will as well, all I can say is if you want to open a resturant go for it!  Incorperate basic French dishes as well as English dishes and if they are cooked well and served well with a good variety of dishes in nice setting why shouldn't it work! You have as much chance as the other resturants and the french may be pleasently suprised that there are good english traditional foods that are cooked and served well, and anyway what have you got to lose! our french guests love our English food and breakfasts, and don't let people put you off or bring you down you have to make a living somehow and why not use the skills you have, everyone else does!
  15. Hi there we are very pet freindly but slightly further up but still on the main route to Spain, just 17 km off the A20 junction 23b in limousin, the last guests a couple of weeks ago asked if they could bring their dog I said fine as usual when we saw him we nearly died he was a Leonberger and my dogs were scared stiff! the people then preceeded to say could we dog sit for 14 hrs a day for 2 days whilst they went to futuroscope so we did and what a big softee he was! cheers

    great Pains...

I'm sure I've just seen a tread on resucing a great dane type  dog and they said to go to the pheonix assocation for details heres the website www.phoenixasso.com
  17. hi there, I totally think the opposite way we live in the lImousin, and talking ti the brits here they are desperate for a chippy or an english resterant and as for them not doing well, the chippy in Vienne which we travel 1/1/2 hrs to get to is so busy and the eresterant nearby that serves brit food has to be booked up well in advance and the scot resturant in Ruffec is doing really well I will get blasted here but I find the standard of french food in a typical small resturant that does three courses for a tenner set menu totally appauling and to get decent food you have to pay over 20 euros, whereas the brit resturants are serving good food for6/8 euros, we have run our b andb for a good while and always encourage people to eat out to see the divercity and differance in the culture and food but most guests come back disapointed unless they have paid 40 euros a head in a decent resterant, I would love to have a brit resterant near here for cheap and holesome food as we cook alot for the guests and like to go out on our days off and do travel to various places sammpling but im yet to find a nice but not too dear resturant, however we have found some nice meduim price ones The chinese in Montmorrillon is excellent 8/10 Ferme de logis Magnac Laval very dear but 8/10 Henry 1V in Bessines very dear but if you go in the afternoon its good 7/10
  18. hello there   we saw it last night in the limousin, it was excellent, you must have a wierd tele!
  19. Come on Sunnyd!!! We have all been open with our details and websites are you ashamed of yours? Or if its so good we may all want to pack up and get B and B s there! If it is so good and wonderful and the area so brillant why are you not proud to show it off! I cetrainly would be God you must have wonderful keywords, please tell us them to be No1 in google etc or you must be paying a fortune in ad words. You must advice us on where we are going wrong, I've been running for years and can only manage No9 on google I'm beginning to think you may have  dug yourself a hole and fallen in it! If not be open like the rest of us and make us eat our Words!
  20. Dewima, thankyou for your kind words, I greatly value the opinion of my guests and have taken advice from alot of sources especially more expierenced b and b owners on this forum, however I do take offence when people (not me I may add) have had years of doing the job and know it inside out Like Miki and Coco, and their advice is demeaned, and told they don't know thier jobs. 'll give an example; I will use nursing as the example cos that is what I was in England, A student Nurse telling the ward Manager how to run her ward and telling her the ward she was running is a medical ward when it is a orthapedic ward, or one step better a patient who has stayed on the ward doing the same thing, This is what it is like to some b and b owners, and thats why the ones that have gone through the starting up period and the honeymoon period and the bloody hard slog in the summer months, know what they are talking about. Running a b and B is very hard work and you need your privicy and a few hrs off sometimes, I personally love the job however I do wish that people who book into a bed and breakfast understand the full meaning of the word  Chambres d'hotes, this implies you will be the private home of a person, and not a hotel, I must say some guests I have had have made me feel very uncomfortable in my own home, and have expected 5 star service on call 24 hrs a day which I do my upmost to give, but some people are very ungrateful, these are the people I think should use hotels, where theres no personal touch. However I must state 99% of the time the guests are fine.
  21. Sunnyd quote ....And if you would care to READ my previous comments you would not be assuming that I have no experience in B&B I am not trying to tell anyone there job, I believe that people should have the option to stay in their B&B accommodation all day if they choose. this comment was directed to everyone not just to you, and I had read your previous comments, that is why I felt the need to participate in this thread!
  22. hi all! I have been watching this thread with interest and sometimes sheer amazement! I'm not into long drawn out arguments but on this occasion I felt as though I had to acknowledge my support for Miki who has almost sole handlely fought the course for expierenced b and b owners! Well done Miki for standing your ground and not giving in to some people who think after two minutes they can demean people with the long term expierence and motivaion that makes them a good host and buisness men/women. Sunny D what Planet are you on? did you not research what buisness you were getting yourself into? of course b and bs do evening meals? I suggest you get the gites de France guidelines or clevacances guidelines and have a good read and then you will maybe have a idea what running a b and b is about! You want to go the extra, stand out! we all do  but the way you are going about it you'll never get any guests! This part of the forum is for B andB owners to discuss our buisness and get advice from each other not to pull peoples advice apart! I would never in a million years especially when I was not a expert on the matter, pull peoples working practices to bits, we have guidelines and thats what you stick to, to be legal Also I have found people who have no experience in the trade and don't work in it have the habit of telling us our jobs just cos they have stayed in a b and b once! I would 'nt go to your place of work and tell you your job would I!
  23. hi there, I know you have been given the local SPA address however you will be very lucky if they will take kittens, the french don't class kittens as been very important and sometimes as vermin, and they would probebly refuse them or just destroy them anyway, what you need to do is tell your friend let the mother nurse them as long as possible then catch them, but in the meantime put cards in the local shops vets and paper and on these forums TF and this one or get in touch with the local charity rescue whose policy is not to put healthy animals down phoenix assocation in the dordogne www.pheonixassoc.com sheelagh will either take them or probebly let you know of another nearer rescue and will advise you as she is wonderful and so caring!  hope this helps
  24. thats wonderful news about woody ,its a shame that more people can not offer homes to stray and unwanted animals, I always worry when theres a thread like this incase they don't get a home  and they have to go to the SPAS or be put down. Judie I thought we had alot of cats but 22 thats loads! we have 12 cats and 6 dogs and my hubby says thats it! enough rescueing for me for a while I think!
