  1. So many advice......and one more. If the car drives ...just drive it once you have had it insured. My motorcycle is also a US import and i got 15 days insurance cover on the US Oregon plate to drive it around. Once at your destination in France apply for the correct documents (as explained above)that will allow you to register it with the French authorities.
  2. ....Friends of ours run a travelling disco in SW France. They have witnessed "des gens du voyage" insulting the local Gendarmes and when they mean insulting they mean real insults. The Gendarmes did nothing and "ignored" the verbal abuses. You and I would have been thrown into the back of the van and taken away for the night had the same happened.
  3. La France profonde....... We will have our Cruiser bike and want to travel an hour or so (hence the geographic specifics), have a good lunch, sleep it off on some stretch of grass and drive back home.....A holiday !!
  4. Great !!! but this does not give me any help for lunches next week !!!!!
  5. A ça oui alors ! Us speakers of English as a foreign language make efforts trying to spell correctly and make our post light and easy to read. Good point. However the wife and I were considering renting our newly purchased house.... What would make a difference to the behaviour of those people....put the price up and only attract "the respectful lodgers"..???
  6. Thanks Crissie, i understand the area in question might have been a tad too large... OK more precisely…South Aveyron, East Tarn & Garonne and North Tarn…. Sunday Driver.....That's a big area. A bit like asking if there's anywhere nice to have lunch in Wales... ....The Oak Tree near Abergavenny.....next :-)
  7. No worries. I used the words translated during the interview as fuel for this Post.
  8. I picked the one that had most to do with this thread and that we are talking about french law and not UK !
  9. Only just this morning BBC radio Newcastle had a bit on the new burka saga. A Muslim woman was interviewed and said that it was her own choice to wear the burka as it places her closer to God (sorry i was not in the studio to ask additional questions....). needless to say that the woman was talking in Farsi language and her husband was doing the translation. So as they only wear their burka outside their house, does this mean they don't care about God once inside? Sorry for being blunt BUT, if we allow Muslim people to carry on wearing their burqua, next they will request that parks and play areas be opened to women only on a Wednesday afternoon, then will come additional requests and before you know it, it will be badly looked upon to be a Christian. Tunisia is a moderate Muslim country and they have banned the wearing of burka in public. tell me why?
  10. Good morning everyone. Preparing our trip down south....we are looking for restaurant recommendations for lunch in the 3 department mentionned above (kind of easy going, good value for money). Many thanks.
  11. You can explain to the DIY shop man what you want to achieve.
  13. In which case you would have something to say as he would have done this without your consent.
  14. And for a serious answer (although i would second the Molotov cocktail offer).....Remember this is France and not everything is done the legit way. Again it depends how many caravans you will be able to take on board for "hivernage". Collect money up-front and give them a quick wash before the owners come and collect and you should be fine.
  15. Rules are very basic for market trading in France (yet again it depends what you intend to sale. If your french is up to it, visit your local market (early in the morning) and speak to "Le Placier" ie. the person who decides where your stand will be for the day and is also the person who collect the fees per meterage of stand.
  16. It very much depends how big that field is....1 bale of hay/cut ??? more...??? ....less...? Bring the topic up during an aperitif evening and in front of witnesses state what the agreement is (ie. the field is yours but you are happy to let the farmer cut the grass and keep the proceeds for as long as you are happy with it).
  17. Is this a live in loft or just a loft loft?? If the loft is used for no other purpose than storing goods, use a bucket of diesel and splash it about. That's what farmers do to their timber. No expensive oil/wax etc. just diesel as it comes out of the pump. You can use this even if it's a live in loft, just keep the windows open for a while. Alternative is to use cheap engine oil (new from the supermarket but the cheapest band is ok) then brush at will on your timber. After a few days the smell has disappeared.
  18. With the latest news that €30M tax rebate was paid back to Betencourt (with can't have gone ahead without) the approval of that same Woerth who was budget minister at the time, his days are numbered.
  19. In plumbing, everything is possible so go-ahead (but also bring spares such as reducers, connectors etc...) to insert new rad in your existing system.
  20. You'll find a better choice on ebay.
