  1. The rot set in when Tony Blair affected an accent to appear a 'man of the people' I don't watch UK TV very often but I certainly notice it when I see films.
  2. I do but knowing the level of your French I posted a link that even you might be able to understand a glimmering of ....and it was free...
  3. True but I reckon that more of the posters on here are over 65 than pregnant😇
  4. Which sort of rodeur is it?

  7. of the free deliveryoffer free delivery I had two separate deliveries from Amazon today(don't ask me why they separated them) I have a delivery of household products from Carrefour for tomorrow, and the site didn't show any shortage of what I wanted. As an aside I don't know if every body knows that Carrefour will let you order online and offer free delivery to people over 65 years old
  8. I am not sure that either bananas of cherry tomatoes at this time of the year count as local produce.....
  9. I heard that the A75 was also blocked, but the situation keeps changing
  10. Over here it has felt like that for a large part of the year. Some days I have eaten on the terrace of a restaurant in 25° (a sun-trap admittedly) with people in T-shirts
  11. " It rained for 11 days out of 14" The couple who run my favourite restaurant have just got back from a fortnight on Île Maurice. After working very hard for two years without a break, plus all the extra work over Christmas and New Year they were rewarded by the Hurricane, and confined to their hotel room for two of the days, with the airport out of action, not😰 sure when they would able to get back
  12. Not my usual reading https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/01/30/europe-france-war-on-farmers-is-playing-with-eurosceptic-fi/
  13. I think that it is in a 'bowl' so suffers from heat in the Summer, and is cold and damp in the Winter. It is also subject to atmospheric pollution. https://www.linternaute.com/voyage/climat/grenoble/ville-38185
  14. I believe that the share of a family's budget that goes towards food has diminished considerably over the years.https://www.fortuneo.fr/blog/budget-nourriture-francais-735
  15. There is a better film version made in two parts by Pagnol himself. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manon_des_sources_(film,_1952)

  17. An excellent documentary on the History of "les Paysans" from around 1900 to the present day. Lots of astonishing film clips and many of the re-coloured https://www.france.tv/france-5/nous-paysans/2264015-nous-paysans.html
  18. Explained here: https://retailtimes.co.uk/brits-to-see-new-not-for-eu-labels-in-supermarkets-but-what-are-they/
  19. I can't understand how the choice seems to be going to be between two very old men. In France the President is 46 years old and the Prime minister 34. Rivals include MLP who is 55 years old and her sidekick Jordan Bardella who look as if he will lead the campaign for the Euro Elections for her party , and he is 28 years old. I thought that Europe was supposed to be the "Old Continent" !

  22. I forgot this link to the place where the butcher offers complete 'kits' of all the ingredients for some traditional dishes. The quantities are too large for a single person but could provide the basis for a familial meal https://boucherie-reverdel.fr/boucherie/
  23. Traiteurs tend to be outside caterers for special occasions. My local butcher also offers 'plats cuisinés' as do several places in Les Halles. They are closer to 'ready meals' t than the full menus offered by 'traiteurs' as you just buy the quantity of a prepared dish that you need https://boucherie-reverdel.fr/espace-dejeuner/ and https://boucherie-reverdel.fr/galerie/ This is a dish from one of the places in Les Halles https://www.facebook.com/reel/372003798863519 I have never seen anything edible in a supermarket here that could be called a ready meal except dubious-looking boxes with plastic tubs in them🤑 but with these "plats cuisinés" readily available elsewhere I don't need them
