Exactly what happened to me 5 years ago, while living in a rented flat in Montpellier centre. Eventually I did get a bus to Castorama, took ages to cross masses of motorways, in the end I was shrieking at motorists and swearing like a trooper at unsuspecting motorists and urban planners alike - I did get my one tub of paint and managed to bring it back - still on the bus, but it took me over half a day just for the trip. I was just being wicked and selfish, telling porkies in a vain attempt to keep to ourselves this beautiful and infinitely privileged part of the world, which is nothing but pink flamingoes, brilliant bee-eaters, giant bougainvillea, luscious fig trees, and bamboo growing at the rate of 1 metre a day... NOTDeath race 2000, more like. BTW Peter, I am pretty sure that there IS a store near Pre d'Arenes, facing Geant Casino, which sells paint - and a bus that goes there. Bring the authentic colours of this historic area into your home. A subtle "grès de Montpellier" on the lower walls perhaps, with "Ecusson ecru" on the top half?"Rose arabe de la Paillade" could be nice if you like pink."Odysseum Orange" and "Ikea Jaune" would brighten any room up.Richter Rouge, Tramway Taupe, Sable de SDF, A9 Ambiance, and bien sur, Beaux-Arts Beige.Any passing entrepreneurs fancy marketing this range? [8-)] Castorama, Carrefour, Jardiland, the CGR, the Swiss Chalet, Buffalo Grill, CitySport, Sport2000, McDonalds, Halle o Chaussures, bed shops..... how could you resist? We left the Gaumont Multiplexe at Odysseum tonight at 6, and you would not have believed the traffic jams heading in to town. Miles! Maybe something big like Johnny on at the Zenith? They really need to sort that exit out, when there's a concert on the queues can back up 2km along the motorway, and it can easily take you an hour to do those 2km! Last week they had paint in the sale.Equally tram line 2 goes along the N113 north of Montpellier. I wish it had been there a bit earlier...Walking from Odysseum to IKEA -on the 2 occasions I did it, there was already no path, more like a mudfield. Round about the already-large Grand Sud (which has an enormous Carrefour and a ToysRUs) you have Jardiland, Mega CGR, Castorama, (and many many more), and a couple of miles away there's the Fenouillet with 2 Decathlons, Darty, Quick, Kiabi, and many many many many more.Don't EVER go there on a Saturday! The urbanistes (planners) of Montpellier and Beziers are a breed apart. I think they have a set idea of where THEY want people to get to and they will get you there, come what may. You simply don’t realise that you REALLY want to go there too[:D]Has anyone seen the Lacroix designs for the 3rd tramway trains? Must have cost a packet but ‘’It’s Lacroix, darling, Lacroix’’ (To be read a la Edwina/Eddie).No doubt wrong thread but…Read that the extension of the Beziers-Vias airport runway is due to be completed Feb 20. So the airport is closed until then. However, still no news about which airlines (Unless anyone else has news on this). The article just says charter and low-cost. I'm personally hoping they'll have flights to places like Seville, Madrid, Lisbon, Oporto and not just the UK. At the moment, flights go to Ajaccio and Paris. [:)][/quote]If you walk through the Odysseum car Park, you can follow the road to IKEA. Bit further, but probably easier !I have seen the plans for Odysseum at an exhibition a few years ago. IKEA was planned, but I don't remember which other retail outlets. However, I do remember that Odysseum will eventually have many residential premises as well.I probably won't use Odysseum in the future as Line 2 is more convenient for me. Well, unless i go to IKEA !BTW I took 40 minutes from Sommieres to La Comedie (via Line 2) on Tuesday. The problem with that is that it's actually quicker and cheaper to carry on past Odysseum and park in the Polygone multistorey, especially if it's just a quick visit. 30 centimes for an hour or something like that till 11am in the multistorey. The Gaumont Multiplexe selfishly closing those big car parks also made a difference - longer drive round to the proper tram parking behind McDonalds. If she is under 12, tell her that it’s because the Emperor of Montpellier (also of the region but cares b ugge r all for the rest of the realm- leave that bit out), is a sweet and gentle giant who adores flowers and their perfume. This gentle soul had a vision of his splendid capital being criss-crossed by the biggest and prettiest flowers imaginable. He then decided that the only way this could be achieved was to have them painted on a tram.If she is older…. Mpprh Posted February 2, 2007 Share Posted February 2, 2007 Just some things I forgot :Tram line 1 is intended to be extended with a new stop called Cité Ludique near IKEA. However there is also a suggestion to extend a little further to create a station & parking on the A9. This stop would be called Odysseum, and the current Odysseum stop renamed. Confusing ?Some work has been done in preparation for this.Tram line 2 is intended to be extended East from St Jean de Vedas to Fabrègues, Cournonterral et Cournonsec as well as Northwest to Castries. I haven't seen any dates for these.Tram line 3 is initially planned to go from Juvignac to Perols. However there is a longer term plan to extend the line from Perols to run along the coast (but excluding Palavas) as far as Grande Motte.The launch date has been put back to 2012.And I've seen other reports that a Geant Casino will be built at Odysseum.Peter Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

[blink]Little lanes being made into bigger roads. Out this side we've had the huge new U depot built at Vendargues, and at St Aunès there's the new Leroy Merlin, and how much other building work is still going on round about it! Then there's all that stuff out at Odysseum that Peter's just mentioned...... and all those roadworks up on the Hopitaux-Facultes road, I don't know what they're for, maybe the eventual motorway link between Millau and Montpellier? I feel exhausted just thinking about it all! Every little space is getting a house built on it, vineyards are disappearing and changing into lotissements. The trams are lovely, but their extension means that what used to be separate villages are now just part of a huge urban sprawl.You know the worst thing? It makes you feel OLD!!!!
