I'm not familiar with your region but here there are Co-Operative Agricole shops/farm suppliers where you can order point-of-lay chickens. That's where I bought some of mine from. Here they have three different breeds available.

Here in 46 we bought ours at the local market. The first lot produced an egg within 2 hours of arriving home.

But if in doubt ask your neighbours.

I'd love to keep some chickens but unfortunately I'm not at my house every day so not a possiblity

Anyway, I know absolutely nothing about keeping them, I don't even know which way up they should be planted [8-)]

When we had our first 4 ex-battery hens, they were almost bald too, and didn't know how to walk! It took them a day to find they could go forward and not just raise legs up and down on the spot, and also to scratch and find small slugs and worms. within a couple of weeks they had re-grown good fluffy coats. When Poppy's bottome started to be covered with huge white blooby spots, we were worried - and one morning said spots burst into lovely plumes and within 2 days she had the fluffiest bumbum!

Great pets as Q says, followed me around everywhere when I was in the garden, hoping i'd find a little worm as a treat. A wonderful experience for all the family- and if I didn't travel so much, would love to have a few again.
