House clearance

Does anyone out there know the best way to clear a house of contents?

We have signed the compromis de vente and dont really want to drag all the furniture etc back to the UK.

Where is the best place to sell/ advertise etc.

Depends what the contents are, but it might be worth asking about local auction houses (Hotel des Ventes), there are different types, even places that have very grandiose sales sometimes have 'household' sales.

(A friend rescued 2 caged finches this way,  you really never know just what will come up at some auctions !)

Try your local Depôt Vente, usually found on the side of busy main roads BUT be very careful about the prices and commission you agree as there are a lot of rogues in that game.

You could try advertising on the local site for your region on Anglo Info, it seems to be one large selling site these days.

I agree with Val about Anglo Info, I got rid of quite a few items though them.  No charge and ideal if you want to deal only with english speakers.  Try also Total France for free classifieds where you can also post photos.  I also found the local paper quite effective, you usually have to pay but they are very widely read.  If you want to give to charity Emmaus is the obvious suggestion, they will collect.
