The 'Blues' thread has put an idea up - what playlist would you have on your iPod for a particular time/task/mood?

This one, from mine, is called "Alex Disco", the Alex being a pub, Julie and I being students and the year being about 1972:

All Right Now                                 Free

Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood    The Animals

Going Up the Country                    Canned Heat

Hard To Handle                             Otis Redding

Honky Tonk Women                      The Rolling Stones

I Can See For Miles                       The Who

Jumpin' Jack Flash                        The Rolling Stones

Let's Work Together                      Canned Heat

Little Bit Of Love                            Free

On the Road Again                       Canned Heat

Paint It, Black                                The Rolling Stones

Piece Of My Heart                         Janis Joplin

Rag Mama Rag                             The Band

Respect                                          Aretha Franklin

Satisfaction                                    The Rolling Stones

Spirit in the Sky                              Norman Greenbaum

Strange Brew                                 Cream

Tobacco Road                                Nashville Teens

You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet            Bachman-Turner Overdrive

I'm still looking for Marsha Hunt's version of Walk on Gilded Splinters - any ideas?

Don't really know what an iPod is, but assuming it only allows you roughly the number of songs on Dick's list, I'd warmly welcome the following, for a dancey feel:

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division

Black Dog - Led Zeppelin

Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order

Just Like Heaven - The Cure

Subterranean Homesick Blues - Robert Zimmerman

In The Flesh - Pink Floyd

Tonight - The Smashing Pumpkins

The Revolution Will Not be Televised - Gil Scott Heron

Sound And Vision - David Jones

Bela Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus

Ziggy Stardust - Bauhaus (David Jones)

Israel - Siouxsie and the Banshees

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

I Hate Nerys Hughes - Half Man Half Biscuit

An Outbreak of Vitus Gerilitis - Half Man Half Biscuit

I Am The Resurrection - The Stone Roses

Bank Robber - The Clash

Holiday In Cambodia - The Dead Kennedys

Come Together - The Beatles

Anarchy In The UK - The Sex Pistols

What's Going On - Marvyn Gaye

Oh gawd there's soooooooooo many more.  Going to play all those now though.......

nb - Dick, your new chimp is really disturbing.  Stop it.

Mark - I've got a smallish, oldish iPod, I have 2700 songs (6.9 days of music) on mine, with room for a few hundred more. With the iPod you can set up different playlists for different moods or circumstances.

And if you think this chimp is disturbing, wait until you see the next one...

Dick, I may know nothing about this alien gadget of which you speak, but what a good thread starter.  I think one can find out much more about one's virtual buddies through their music than from their photographic self-portraits.  Super.  Hope we get lots more offerings.

Oh, I forgot Elvis.  Any early Elvis.  Divine.

Walkin' Home                                             Dr John

That used to bring my blood pressure down a treat!

What's wrong with the Dr John version?

Oh, and this thread is becoming chimpist. Please desist.

[/quote]

I never found that Dr John (much as I like his work) had the same charm (or charms - remember the crop-top on TOYP?) as Ms Hunt. That said, I haven't heard his version in full.

My "sing" playlist, off my iPod thingy.

Songs that I am quite simply unable to keep my mouth shut to.

The Killing Moon - Echo and the bunnymen
Magic Man - Heart (before the big hair)
American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Throw your arms around me - Hunters and Collectors
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
Why does love do this to me - Exponents
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Jump in the line - Harry Belafonte
Double Barrel - Dave and Ansell Collins
Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2
Where did you sleep last night - Nirvana
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
It's all been done - Barenaked Ladies
Anchor Me - The Mutton Birds
Life's what you make it - Talk Talk
Get it On - T Rex
Losing My Religion - REM
10,000 Miles - The Proclaimers
Rock n' Roll Suicide - David Bowie
Song to the Siren - This Mortal Coil
Sugar Baby Love - The Rubettes

One or two are very deeply naff, but sometimes you just have to give in to the dark side.
