Cassis
If you look back, there are exceptionally few mentions of either Dorset or Hampshire, so maybe it is a peculiarity of the circles in which the OP moves.
Bugsy
Cassis, you are correct, of course, it started because of the ten english couples that live within seven miles of us, eight came from those two counties. It could also be the fact that the area we live is very similar, geographically, to north dorset/hampshire.ps. where is your christmas avatar ? cooperlola
Our 2 closest English neighbours came over here from Kent. However, this is probably because one came with me to house-hunt (supposedly to keep my feet on the ground) and bought a house on the same day as we did, and the other who stayed with us half a dozen times and then moved over here on the strength of that. I also discovered that the wife of a local English farmer went to the same school as me.
