Scorpions

I am trying to find out which regions in france have scorpions, how far south can you go before you hit scorpions? Thanks

I saw one west of Nabonne in a abbey, sadley some one had stood on it and killed it

We get them in the house here:  little dark ones. Also in the shed, they like areas that are damp and cool and dark. It was quite a shock the first time, then I realised they are quite a common occurrence.

Their sting is said to be no more painful than a wasp's sting.

I have never seen any of the other kind that lives on rockery, is much bigger, lighter, and with a more powerful sting.

They are largely nocturnal I think and what you need to find them is a UV, fluoresce under it. In the crevices of stone walls is a great place to look for them.

We are near Avignon and get the dark and sometimes the lighter variety.  They are a bit of a fright when you first see them, then you get used to them, along with all the other creatures we share space with.

In theory at least they are present (or could be) anywhere in France.  There is a colony in Sheerness in the UK and that is further north than anywhere in France.  These however are European scorpions and not the big black deadly (supposedly) things you see in docu's or horror films

I have a friend who lives in Ringwood and he tells me you'll often find little scorpions sunning themselves on Poole harbour wall......[:-))]
