Cassis Posted June 7, 2006 Share Posted June 7, 2006 Anyone know how to open stubborn bocaux/kilner type jars with the metal clips and rubber rings? We've got a dozen big jars we sealed last autumn and can't get into them. Don't really want to boil them open as they've already been cooked once in the storage process! Is there a knack? You insert the rubber tongue in it then wind it round pulling the rubber ring until "phsst.." the lid is unstuck.Ouvre BocalIf you have a look for "ouvre bocal" you may find some more. If you try with pliers, see if you can twist the rubber tongue round them, not just pull.Fancy preparing all that food and then not being able to get at it... !
