1. Thank you both for these links.  I'll give them a try.  [:)] Louise.
2. Hi, Can anyoned recommed a good website that will translate french medical terms.  Partner has just visited a french clinic and although we get the gist of what the problem is, I would like to just be sure! Many thanks. Louise.
3. Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone who contributed to this question, all comments greatly appreciated. It would appear I need professional help (in more ways than one!).  [:D] Louise.
4. Hello again, Thanks for all this!  Firstly, when I sold the other house, the Notaire definately asked about the tax d'hab in relation to paying tax, we were discussing paying as little tax as possible (as I'm sure we all would[Www]) and he asked if I had paid any tax d'hab. Secondly, I have lived in this house since April 2005.  I don't pay tax in France as I do not earn any money (living off savings currently).  I have never been sent a Tax Advice, but I did once receive a form asking me if I was earning money in France, which I returned telling them I wasn't and have not heard anything since. Look forward to any further comments! Lou.
5. "and I can prove this having paid my taxe de habitation", that, I'm sorry to inform you, is not the same as principle residence, people with holiday homes pay taxe de habitation. The reason I say this is because I recently sold a second house that I had never inhabited and the Notaire simply asked if I had paid any taxe de habitation so that I could avoid paying tax.  As I had not paid this, and as I had barely made any profit, I accepted that I had to pay a small amount of tax. Maybe the Notaire was assuming I was officially resident and I would have to provide some kind of residency permit when it comes to selling this time around? Thanks Lou.
6. I am currently selling my house here in France.  Whilst it is my principal residance, and I can prove this having paid my taxe de habitation I understand that I would not pay tax on any profit I have made since owning the house. My question is though, in order to avoid paying tax do I need to be registered as resident in France? If the answer is yes, any pointers on doing this would be greatly appreciated. [:)] Many thanks in advance. Louise.
7.
When we first got insurance cover I asked about accidental damage cover and was laughed out of the office. Tried a few others and was told no, so gave up and have never had that cover. It seems the French philosophy ( not mine)  is be more blooming careful! I suppose it helps keep everyone's premiums down - yours is obviously a valid claim but for every honest claim I wouldn't like to hazard a guess how many are dubious. Be interested to know if any one has got it and what difference it makes to the premiums.
After this weeks experience, we have been offered Accidental cover at an extra cost of €100.  The agent then suggested we add this to the policy and then claim, but then realised that he would probably remember me and would know I was claiming fraudulently! [8-)] Lou.
8. My partner and I have this week have found to our cost that we do not have the correct cover for the house contents insurance. We have an antique walnut glass topped dining table and unfortunately the glass has been broken.  (A light fell on it).  We found an artisan who was able to repair the table and we were duly supplied with an estimate of €900 ttc. [:'(] When I approached the insurance office about how to make a claim for this, I found that the insurance does not cover accidental damage, so therefore it was a case of sorry but you do not have cover. [:(] Now, whilst I remember being clearly told what insurance we had for the contents i.e. water damage, theft, vandalism, etc, it didn't occur to me to check we were covered for accidental damage.  I suppose I just assumed it was as I believe that with english house insurance it is standard, or at the very least you are asked if you would like this type of cover. For some of  you reading this sorry little tale, you are probably thinking 'serves you right for not checking' (perhaps rightly so), but I can only hope for a few others it may prompt you to check your own policies and make adjustments where necessary! Lou.
9. Yes you are right.  Ryanair fly from Stansted to Rodez. See www.ryanair.com Happy flying! Lou.
10. Thanks again everyone! Think we might try and bobble along with the 6kw we have and see how it goes! [8-|] Lou.
11. Many thanks! That's a bit frightening, wish we had installed a gas hob now! [blink] Lou.
12. Hi, We have just updated our kitchen and have installed an electric hob and oven, and now I think we must contact EDF to get our electricty supply upped. Can anyone tell me the financial implications (if any) of this please?  For example, will we go onto a more expensive (or perhaps cheaper) tariff? I think we will need to go from 6 kw up to about 12 kw. Many thanks. Lou.
13. Sorry to be a bit slow with this, but have only just read this post [8-|] An easy way to open the jars with the metal spring clips is to release the clip and put them in a warmish oven for 10-15 mins and they should release themselves. [:)] Lou.
14.
I've just seen Ziggy's pun - music when we 'log on' - nice one!
Ooops, not that I spotted it [:$] Lou.
15. Wow!  Absolutely fantastic! I like the music too [:)]  Perhaps this forum could benefit from having some nice soothing music playing whenever we log on, very relaxing [;-)] Lou.
16. We suffered with the flies all last summer and the start of this before succumbing to buying a furry hanging curtain for the front door - and hey presto, it actually helped enormously! [:D]  The number of flies in the house was considerably reduced.  This would be ideal at your back door, but you do really need to keep the windows shut too though! Good Luck, Lou.
17. I shall continue to play as I enjoy it, but it's now too difficult for me! [:'(] A belated thanks to Russethouse for setting it up! [kiss] Lou.
18.
This evening I'm going to a tiny weeny fete where I was singing on Friday and I'm gonna ambush the karaoké evening and sing out of tune 'cos' I'm not being paid!  Copious amounts of muscat will help a lot[:-))]
Twinkle, have sent you a PM. Lou.
19. Hi Chris and Dick, I can confirm that the wording was exactly as posted, and it is actually a section of the River Tarn, so not sure who the owner is! Many thanks for all the info. Lou.
20. Thanks again for the info. Best steer clear! [Www] Lou.
21. Thanks chaps! Glad I checked [:-))] Lou.   Edit: Just had a thought!  If I see this sign has been removed, can I assume it's ok to fish there?  I ask this as I know I have seen people fishing in this area!
22. OH has been looking out for some good fishing spots here in Aveyron and we have seen the following sign: "Reserve de Peche - Frayeres Sandre" Could someone confirm exactly what this sign means please?  I think it means you can still fish in this area, but not when the Zander are spawning.  How close am I? [Www] Any info greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Lou.
23. Could someone please help me with the French phrases required when buying new tyres please? I understand that 'balancing' is équilibrage, but what is 'tracking'? Many thanks. Lou.
