hi ok

no one has had a go so.... you are asking for none std size joists , better if you ask for std French sizes eg. madrier = 75 X 225 , bastaing = 63 X 175   etc etc but even these vary in size from area to area ... why do you want 9" X 2"    joists they are a bit iffy for floor joists ??

9 x 2 is a standard size for UK joists, spaced at 400 centres they will span the 4.8 metres I need.

If 75 x 225 (3 x 9) is the norm in France then so be it. I t just means I can space them at 450 instead.

Assuming that madrier means joist or such in French, what does 'bastaing' mean please.

Thanks for info

Gary

hi ok

9X2 yes you are right std uk size  been working with the French ones too long .. but saying that 4.8 mtrs is a bit much even for 9x2 . 13 ft should be the max  span for a norm loaded floor.( old school formula   twice the span in yards plus one )

French terms for the wood .not sure what they all mean but pick up any brico type mag and they will be in there like ... chevrons 63 X 75  roofing joists ...solivette   32 x 175 ... ish  demi- chevron etc ..
